Quang Binh (VNA) - Leaders of the central province of Quang Binh have attended ground-breaking ceremonies of several houses for people with disadvantaged backgrounds as part of the movement to replace and upgrade temporary and dilapidated houses in the locality.

Provincial Party Committee Secretary Le Ngoc Quang attended the ceremony at the home of Cao Thi Ha in Trung Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, while Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Tran Hai Chau participated in the ceremony at the home of Ta Van Thuong in Quang Phuong commune, Quang Trach district. At the same time, the Chairman of the Quang Binh People’s Committee presided over the ceremony at the home of Nguyen Thi Ngoc in Tan Thuy commune, Le Thuy district.

Speaking at the ceremony on January 3, Quang highlighted the profound humanitarian significance of this initiative, which not only provides material support but also demonstrates the shared responsibility of the political system and the solidarity of society. He emphasised the importance of mobilising resources from the Government, businesses, and voluntary contributions from the public.

Quang called on all-level Party committees, administration, Vietnam Fatherland Front committees, organisations, businesses and residents to unite and join hands to eliminate temporary housing for 2,154 poor and near-poor households across the province before the district, town, and city-level Party congresses.

The provincial leader urged continued efforts to promote this campaign, making it a true social movement.

Quang Binh aims to do away with 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households by this September, fulfilling the poverty reduction goals outlined in the Resolution of the 17th provincial Party Congress, completing the national campaign of joining hands for the poor – leaving no one behind, Quang underscored.

Currently, Quang Binh has more than 2,150 households living in temporary or dilapidated homes that require reconstruction or repairs. The province provides 60 million VND (2,359 USD) in support for each newly built home and 30 million VND for repairs. The total funding required, estimated at 98 billion VND, will be sourced from the provincial budget and a 5% reduction in regular expenditure from the 2024 State budget./.
