Bangkok (VNA) – Work began on a stilt house at a memorial site dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh in Udon Thani province, northeastern Thailand on April 9.
This is the first component of the expansion project for the relic site. It includes facilities related to the President's life and activities in Thailand between 1928 and 1929, as well as the close ties between Vietnam and Thailand.
The 100 sq.m structure is a replica of President Ho Chi Minh’s stilt house located at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. The project is expected to be completed on the occasion of the late leader's 136th birthday (May 19, 1980-2026).
Pham Duc Dau, head of the Ho Chi Minh relic site management board in Udon Thani, expressed his hope that the project will help Thai people and international visitors gain a deeper understanding of the Vietnamese history.
The site is the third dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh in Thailand, alongside two others in Nakhon Phanom and Phichit provinces. Since its official inauguration in August 2011, the site has welcomed over 1,000 visitors each month, who come to learn about the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese culture, as well as the relations between the two countries.
The expansion project is expected to be completed within the next five years. Once finished, it will serve as a major cultural tourism destination for the locality./.
