Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia hosted a gathering with the Standing Board of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Central Committee on April 2 in Phnom Penh, marking Cambodia’s Choul Chnam Thmey 2026 and celebrating the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

The event saw the presence of senior Cambodian leaders, including CPP Vice President Samdech Sar Kheng; CPP Vice President and Chairman of the Standing Board of the CPP Central Committee Samdech Say Chhum; President of the National Assembly Samdech Khuon Sudary; and members of the CPP Central Committee.

Addressing the event, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu congratulated Cambodia on its recent achievements under the leadership of the CPP and the Government, noting that these successes have not only brought tangible benefits to the Cambodian people but also contributed to building the ASEAN Community and maintaining peace, stability and development in the region.

The ambassador said relations between the two Parties, States and peoples have continued to grow in a substantive and effective manner, stressing the success of the recent State visit to Cambodia by Party General Secretary To Lam and a high-level delegation of Vietnam.

Vu also noted that Vietnam successfully organised the CPV’s 14th National Congress earlier this year and held elections of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure in March. These events, he said, marked a significant milestone, ushering the country into a new development phase.

On the occasion of traditional New Year Choul Chnam Thmey, he wished Cambodian people peace, prosperity and further achievements in national construction and development.

CPP Vice President Samdech Sar Kheng spoke highly of the growing cooperation between the two Parties and countries, acknowledging the Vietnamese Embassy’s contributions to strengthening bilateral ties. He emphasised that relations have been reinforced in line with the motto of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability,” delivering practical benefits to both peoples.

He affirmed that Cambodia always prioritises preserving the longstanding solidarity and mutual support between the two nations and remembers Vietnam’s assistance, particularly the sacrifices of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in helping liberate Cambodia from the genocidal Pol Pot regime.

Looking ahead to 2027, when the two countries will celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties, he said Cambodia will work closely with Vietnam to organise meaningful commemorative activities.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy also held a photo exhibition on bilateral relations./.
