VNA celebrates 80th anniversary, reinforces role in combating fake news

As a state news agency and a primary source of information for the media, the VNA has played an essential role in providing and disseminating news on the people, events, politics, economy, policies, progress, and development of Vietnam and Cambodia to domestic and international audiences.

Phnom Penh (VNA) - The presence of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) in Cambodia in particular, and its role in general, holds great significance, especially in the fight against fake news through the provision of accurate information and the rejection of false claims regarding the long-standing solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia.

In an interview with a VNA correspondent in Phnom Penh on the occasion of the agency's 80th anniversary (September 15, 1945 – 2025), Chey Beaupha, Vice President of the Cambodia- Vietnam Alumni Association (CAVA), expressed her confidence in the efforts of Vietnam’s national news agency in combating disinformation in the digital era, building on its existing strengths.

According to Beaupha, in the age of artificial intelligence (AI), information spreads at an unprecedented speed. Beyond sources from the press, vast amounts of content are circulated on social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok. Among them, a significant portion consists of false and misleading information about Cambodia, Vietnam, and their traditional friendship.

The CAVA Vice President underscored the VNA’s strengths and role in responding to and refuting false narratives about the enduring solidarity between the two neighbouring countries. The presence of the VNA bureau in Cambodia is of great importance in delivering positive and constructive news to readers and people of both nations, she noted.

She noted that as a state news agency and a primary source of information for the media, the VNA has played an essential role in providing and disseminating news on the people, events, politics, economy, policies, progress, and development of Vietnam and Cambodia to domestic and international audiences.

Conversely, she added, Cambodia has also benefited from a wealth of information made available by the VNA, enabling its people to better understand issues and events in both countries. This not only builds public trust but also helps deepen awareness of culture, diplomacy, and the tourism appeal of Vietnam and Cambodia.

The CAVA Vice President expressed her hope that the agency will continue to strengthen its efforts to deliver more positive information to its readership as well as the people in Vietnam and worldwide./.

The Cambodian journalist said he prefers citing the VNA because of its role as Vietnam’s national news agency, entrusted for decades with delivering official information on the Vietnamese Party, State, and Government’s policies, guidelines and laws during wartime or peacetime.

The inspection revealed that passenger P.T.H. had concealed 10 pieces of the metal, weighing about 5 kg, inside her bra and underwear.
