Ca Mau (VNA) – After more than four months, the southernmost province of Ca Mau has completed nearly 78% of its plan to do away with makeshift and dilapidated homes, the provincial steering committee for the housing campaign said on April 15.

Under the programme, a total of 2,068 houses have so far been built or repaired, reaching 77.8% of the target. Notably, two of the province’s nine district-level localities have already fulfilled their targets, namely Ngoc Hien district with 240 houses and Ca Mau city with 112 units.

The programme costs more than 222.7 billion VND (8.62 million USD) in total, with over 166.7 billion VND already disbursed.

By April 30, the province aims to complete the building and repair of houses for families of war veterans and martyrs, along with households under the national target programme for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas. The overall goal is to finish 4,400 housing units for eligible beneficiaries by June 30.

Beyond the standard support of 60 million VND for each new construction and 30 million VND for each repaired one, Ca Mau has identified 3,124 of the 4,400 homes lacking sanitary toilets. Authorities are mobilising an additional 5 million VND per home through private funding to address this gap.

Serving the provincial efforts, its localities have formed community task forces and volunteer teams at the hamlet and neighborhood level. Over 2,380 volunteers across 95 teams have contributed more than 2,890 workdays, estimated at a value of 843 million VND. In addition, 255 households have been allocated residential land to facilitate new home construction./.
