Chinese Ambassador hails Vietnam’s election preparations

Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo has affirmed the political significance of the elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 tenure, scheduled for May 23, in an interview granted recently to the Vietnam News Agency.

Hanoi (VNA) - Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo hasaffirmed the political significance of the elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 tenure,scheduled for May 23, in an interview granted recently to the Vietnam NewsAgency.

The ambassador noted that Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hadpersonally chaired a conference on election work and closely directedpreparations, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue had travelled tomany localities such as Hai Phong city and Tuyen Quang and Quang Ninh provincesto inspect preparations.

He added that in ministries, agencies, and localities, officials andpeople have actively engaged in the political consultation process.

The ambassador stressed that as socialist countries under the leadershipof their Communist Parties, China and Vietnam always pursue a people-centreddevelopment path, consistently develop socialist democracy with their owncharacteristics and ensure citizens’ right to mastery.

He noted that candidates for the 15th NA election in Vietnam comefrom all walks of life and professions, which shows a high degree ofrepresentativeness, citing that ethnic minorities account for one-fifth and women45 percent; higher than in previous elections.

The sound preparations reflect the CPV’s consistentleadership, citizens’ right to mastery, and national governance in line withthe law, he said.

With Vietnam making an all-out effort to fight COVID-19,Ambassador Xiong Bo hailed the country for using information technology in theelection to ensure that it will take place in a safe and orderly manner.

He expressed a belief that the elections will be asuccess, and Vietnamese voters will choose deputies with moral virtue, talent,and professional expertise to ensure the implementation of the Resolution of the13th National Party Congress and fulfill the targets set by theCongress.

The ambassador also spoke highly of the friendship andcooperation between the legislatures of China and Vietnam.

He recalled the visit to China by NA Chairwoman NguyenThi Kim Ngan in July 2019, during which she was received by and held talks withChinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, Chairman of theStanding Committee of the National People’s Congress Li Zhanshu, and Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political ConsultativeConference Wang Yang.

The ambassador said during themeetings, both sides reached important common perception on the exchange ofexperience on national governance and enhancing cooperation between law-making bodies.

He vowed to continue working topromote exchanges between the two legislatures, contributing to the developmentof the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership./.

Photo book on 16th National Assembly, 2026–2031 elections launched

The VNA Publishing House was tasked with compiling the photo book, which comprehensively portrays preparations, organisation and the successful conduct of the elections, followed by the NA’s first session. Editors, experts and designers worked intensively to complete the book in time for its release on the closing day of the session.

16th NA wraps up first session, completing key leadership appointments, legislative agenda

During the session, the NA passed nine laws and 31 resolutions, many of which received unanimous approval from all deputies present. The newly adopted policies aim to remove bottlenecks, respond promptly to practical needs, promote decentralisation alongside clearer accountability and introduce specific mechanisms to tackle stalled projects and unlock resources for socio-economic development.

Final working day of 16th National Assembly’s 1st session

The resolutions include those on the approval of the final settlement of the 2024 State budget, and on the NA’s supervision programme for 2027 and on the establishment of the NA’s thematic supervision delegation for 2027, the NA resolution on the development of Vietnamese culture and another on piloting the public lawyer system, the resolution on the establishment of Dong Nai city as a centrally governed city, and the NA resolution on special mechanisms and policies to handle land law violations committed by organisations and individuals before the 2024 Land Law took effect, along with solutions to continue removing obstacles for long-delayed and outstanding projects.

98.6% of voters' petitions resolved: National Assembly

Delivering a report on the supervision of petition handling at the NA's plenary meeting on April 23, Chairwoman of the NA's Committee for People's Aspirations and Supervision Le Thi Nga said of the total, the legislature and its bodies handled all 34 petitions under their remit, while the Government and central agencies resolved 1,182 out of 1,200 cases.
