Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia has launched a summer holiday shopping campaign offering discounts of up to 50%, aiming to stimulate domestic consumption and encouraging residents to increase domestic travel.
According to the Indonesia Ministry of Tourism, the BINA (Shopping in Indonesia Movement) Holiday & Back to School 2026 programme involves 800 brands, approximately 80,000 outlets, and 414 shopping centres across 24 provinces. It aims to boost domestic consumption and tourist trips throughout the school break.
As reported by the country’s national news agency, the ministry’s Spokesperson Nia Niscaya said shopping tourism can help broaden the economic impact of the tourism sector by supporting not only shopping centres, but also retailers, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), culinary businesses, and the creative economy across various destinations.
She further said that an increase in domestic tourist trips is also expected to have a wider economic impact on local businesses across regions.
"We aim to increase domestic travel while supporting local economic growth through various collaborative initiatives," the official remarked, as quoted by Antara./.

Of the 12 strategic food commodities, Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency and even exports for eight of them. Currently, only three food commodities still require foreign supplies to meet national needs, namely garlic, beef, and soybeans.
