Seoul (VNA) – The Republic of Korea (RoK) and Indonesia held a follow-up virtual meeting on May 26 to implement a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in primary healthcare and artificial intelligence (AI)-based human resource development, according to the RoK Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The MoU on AI-powered primary healthcare cooperation was signed during the state visit to the RoK last month by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
At the meeting, the RoK side outlined its goal of promoting AI-driven primary healthcare cooperation to improve public access to healthcare services while ensuring the right to comprehensive medical care.
The ministry also introduced specific implementation plans, including an AI-powered telemedicine consultation model for underserved areas and an AI-assisted chronic disease management model based on primary healthcare services.
Under a project aimed at accelerating the commercialisation of AI applications, the RoK plans to pilot these models in Indonesia’s mountainous and island regions in the second half of this year.
The RoK government said it will continue exchanges with Indonesia through joint public-private seminars and discussions involving university hospitals, major technology firms and educational institutions to further develop cooperation frameworks.
Speaking at the meeting, Korean Minister of Health and Welfare Jeong Eun-kyeong noted that both countries share similar geographical challenges, with many mountainous and island areas facing shortages of healthcare services.
He described AI technology as a breakthrough solution to narrow gaps in healthcare access and expressed hope that the two countries would further strengthen cooperation in implementing AI-based primary healthcare models in the coming years./.
