Hanoi (VNA) – A total of 102,243 students in Hanoi gained admission to public high schools for the the 2026 - 2027 academic year after the 10th grade entrance exam, accounting for more than 80% of all candidates taking the exam, according to the municipal Department of Education and Training.
The high admission rate reflects Hanoi’s efforts to expand enrolment quotas and increase school capacity, helping ease competition amid a sharp rise in the number of applicants this year. It has also significantly improved access to public high school education for students.
In recent years, the municipal authorities have continued to invest in building new schools, upgrading facilities, and adding classrooms in areas with rapid population growth. Enrolment quotas have been adjusted based on actual demand, contributing to better meeting the demands of students and parents.
Beyond expanding public school capacity, Hanoi continues to pursue its policy of ensuring learning opportunities for 100% of secondary school graduates. Instead of focusing solely on public high schools, more families are choosing diverse educational pathways based on students’ abilities, strengths and career orientations.
Alongside public schools, students can opt for private high schools, vocational education and continuing education centres.
For the 2026 – 2027 school year, private high schools in Hanoi have been allocated more than 34,000 enrolment places. Many of these schools offer modern facilities, diverse curricula, including advanced foreign language classes, high-quality programmes and experiential learning activities.
In addition, the city’s network of 29 vocational education–continuing education centres has been assigned nearly 12,000 enrolment places. Diplomas from these programmes are equivalent to regular high school diplomas, allowing graduates to pursue university or college admission if they meet the required conditions./.
