US naval ships dock in Da Nang for four-day visit

Marking the 30th anniversary of Vietnam - US diplomatic ties, the visit by the US Navy’s amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls is intended to cement the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2023.

Da Nang (VNA) – The US Navy’s amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls, carrying more than 2,000 officers and sailors under the command of Rear Admiral Thomas Shultz, Commander of US Expeditionary Strike Group 7, arrived at Da Nang’s Tien Sa Port on December 8 for a four-day friendly visit.

The welcome ceremony in the central city was attended by representatives from the municipal Department of Foreign Affairs, Military Command, and Border Guard Command, and the Naval Region 3 Command, and relevant agencies.

Marking the 30th anniversary of Vietnam - US diplomatic ties, the visit is intended to cement the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2023. With its ample potential in tourism, culture, and economic development, together with its well-known hospitality, Da Nang stands ready to serve as a bridge for national defence - security cooperation, cultural and sports exchanges, and naval professional engagement.

During the stay, the guests are due to pay courtesy calls to leaders of the municipal People’s Committee, Military Region 5, and Naval Region 3; join professional exchanges and sport matches with Vietnamese counterparts, meet with children at the Village of Hope and students at the University of Foreign Language Studies – University of Da Nang, and engage in cultural and sightseeing activities./.
