Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian children strengthen friendship at cultural festival

Held in Ho Chi Minh City from July 28 to 30, the eighth Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Children's Festival brought together 120 child delegates from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, along with 100 children from the southern hub.

Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – The eighth Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Children's Festival concluded in Ho Chi Minh City on July 30 after three days of cultural exchanges, educational activities and experience sharing aimed at strengthening the traditional friendship among the three neighbouring countries.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and Chairwoman of the municipal Children's Council Trinh Thi Hien Tran said the festival had given children from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia many memorable experiences while helping them make new friends and learn more about the history, culture and people of each country.

She said the smiles, enthusiasm and friendships formed throughout the festival reflected the spirit of its theme "Friends' Embrace" and contributed to its success. Tran expressed her belief that the event would further strengthen the friendship among children of the three countries. She encouraged participants to cherish and develop the friendships they had built during the festival and become young ambassadors contributing to the long-standing traditional solidarity and friendship between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

The closing ceremony featured cultural performances showcasing the rich traditions of the three countries. Folk songs, traditional dances, a presentation of Cambodia's Sampeah greeting, and performances celebrating Vietnam-Laos friendship created a lively atmosphere while introducing distinctive cultural values and promoting closer connections among the young delegates.

The organising committee also presented commemorative gifts to participating delegations and recognised groups that actively took part in the festival's activities, honouring their spirit of friendship, exchange and cooperation.

Held from July 28 to 30, the festival brought together 120 child delegates from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, along with 100 children from Ho Chi Minh City.

During the event, participants visited the Rung Sac Resistance Base historical relic site, toured the city on a double-decker night bus, enjoyed the Mo Show art performance, explored traditional craft villages and the Vietnam Chocolate Museum – La Maison du Chocolat, and took part in various cultural and educational activities.

Through these activities, the festival helped deepen solidarity and friendship among the younger generations of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia while promoting Ho Chi Minh City as a cultural and tourism destination to international friends./.

At the tri-border marker, the officers learned about its history and major diplomatic activities held there. The border marker was built in 2007 and inaugurated in January 2008. Since then, it has hosted important political events, including the first provincial-level Vietnam–Laos–Cambodia Border Friendship Exchange in 2018 and the first Vietnam–Laos–Cambodia Border Defence Friendship Exchange in 2023.

Road accident fund to provide support from September

Under Decree No. 279/2025/ND-CP and Circular No. 126/2026/TT-BCA, injured victims with bodily injury rates of over 31% to below 81% may receive up to 10 million VND (381 USD) per case, while families of deceased victims may receive up to 20 million VND.

New resolution seeks to unlock OV resources for national development

Ha Thanh, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations and head of the advisory council for international integration, people-to-people diplomacy and overseas Vietnamese affairs under the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, said Resolution No. 23 builds on the fundamental viewpoints of the Politburo's Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW issued in 2004, reaffirming that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the nation and a bridge connecting Vietnam with the world.

Vietnam-UK education cooperation: From market to partnership

In the 2024/25 academic year, about 3,725 Vietnamese students studied in the UK, while 13,285 enrolled in UK programmes delivered in Vietnam. Both flows are growing, but the balance is increasingly shifting towards UK education being delivered to learners in Vietnam.
