Mexico City (VNA) – A working delegation from the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) led by Deputy Director General Ngo Minh Hien paid a working visit to Mexico from April 14 to 15 to bolster media cooperation with the South American country.

During the trip, conducted as part of the activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam – Mexico diplomatic relations (May 19), the delegation had working sessions with President of Mexico's Club of Journalists Mouris Salloum George and Director of the Mexican Radio Institute (IMER)’s international radio Velia Perez Martínez, and visited the Vietnamese Embassy and representative offices in the country.

In discussions with George, Hien briefed him an overview of VOV's history, development, functions, and responsibilities, noting that VOV is currently operating an international service broadcasting in 13 foreign languages across numerous countries and territories, including programmes dedicated to promoting the culture, landscapes, and people of nations worldwide.

He said it plans to broadcast distinctive Mexican music programmes to Vietnamese audiences on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic ties, thereby enhancing mutual understanding between the peoples of both nations.

Congratulating the Mexican journalist for winning the second prize of Vietnam's 10th National External Information Service Awards, Hien spoke highly of his writings which have provided objective information about Vietnam to the Mexican people, contributing to promoting the traditional friendship between the two countries.

George briefed the Vietnamese guest on Mexico’s journalism history and development, and expressed his desire to enhance cooperation and academic exchanges between media organisations of both countries, especially between the club and Vietnam's major media agencies such as the VOV, Vietnam News Agency, and Vietnam Television.

Meeting with Martínez, Hien commended Mexico's radio broadcasting system, particularly its high-quality programmes on cultural and social issues, while proposing increased cooperation and exchanges in expertise and content between VOV and the IMER.

Expressing admiration for VOV's 80-year history, as well as its significant contributions to the country's defence and development, Martínez confirmed that Mexico is ready to collaborate with VOV, focusing on 30-minute music programmes, and those promoting culture and people.

Earlier, the delegation had a working session with the Vietnamese Embassy, and laid flowers at the President Ho Chi Minh memorial statue at Mexico City's People Freedom Park in Mexico City. Built in 2009, modeled after a photograph taken by artist Dinh Dang Dinh showing President Ho Chi Minh working in the Presidential Palace garden, the statute stands as a symbol of friendship and solidarity between the Vietnamese and Mexican people./.
