Cargo carrier takes off in early 2010

The first flights of Vietnam’s first private air Cargo carrier, Trai Thien Air Cargo Joint-Stock Company, is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of next year.

Trai Thien AirCargo specialises in cargo transportation on domestic andinternational routes, with a focus on the Northeast Asian and SoutheastAsian markets.

It has registered to operate with Boeing 737-300 freighters which wereconverted from passenger aircraft, according to a press release fromthe Trai Thien Sea & Air Transportation Corporation.

Trai Thien Corp was established from its subsidiaries Trai ThienShipping Transport Investment and Development Joint-Stock Company,which was set up in June 2007, and Trai Thien Air Cargo Joint Stock Co,a year later.

Addressing the opening of the HCM City-based group on Oct. 23, thepresident and CEO of Trai Thien Group, Nguyen Quoc Khanh, said with acharter capital of 500 billion VND (28 million USD), Trai Thien hasfour cargo ships with total capacity of 13,391 DWT.

He said by the end of this year, the groups’ fleet would be raised toeight with total capacity of more than 40,000 tonnes.

With a bigger fleet, the group will expand its services to Europe andNorth America, transporting cargo such as steel, machinery andequipment, timber, materials for agricultural production, rice, cementand clinker.

During the opening ceremony, the group also signed with the VietnamShipbuilding Industry Corp (Vinashin) a contract to buy 16 vessels withcapacity of 34,000 DWT to 56,000 DWT each.

Khanh said Trai Thien had proposed a 300 million USD project to developa deep-water seaport on Con Dao Island. The proposal has received thego-ahead from the southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial authority.

Khanh also announced that Trai Thien Shipping Transport Investment andDevelopment Joint Stock Company had been listed on the US ’s Over theCounter Bulletin Board (OTCBB), adding that the listing on the USsecurities market would help the group mobilise capital and build astrong brand around the world.

Khanh said the group would soon open a representative office inCalifornia, which will help Trai Thien increase its volume of cargotransport from Vietnam to Europe and the Western coast of the US./.

Vietnam Airlines Group offers nearly 2.2 million discounted domestic seats

Vietnam Airlines Group, comprising Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO), will provide nearly 5.5 million seats on domestic routes from now until August 16 to meet peak summer travel demand, including around 2.2 million seats offered at promotional fares on various routes.
