Hanoi (VNA) - Four component projects of the Eastern North–South Expressway for the 2021–2025 period are being accelerated, with contractors and project management units mobilising maximum resources to ensure basic completion by the end of September.

The Chi Thanh–Van Phong Expressway, comprising two contract packages, currently has 44 construction fronts with 768 machines and 1,688 workers deployed. The project has reached 82.03% of its contractual value. According to Le Quoc Dung, Director of Project Management Unit (PMU) 7, roadbed excavation is nearly complete, with more than 50% of crushed stone laid and 45% of asphalt pavement finished. All 32 bridges have been completed, while the Tuy An Tunnel has finished excavation and is 98.53% complete in concrete lining.

For the Quang Ngai–Hoai Nhon Expressway, Project Director Bui Nhat Hien reported 49 construction fronts, 1,226 machines and 3,261 workers in operation. Progress has reached 75.45% of contract value, about 6.5% behind schedule compared to the September 30 target, with Tunnel No. 3 slated for completion on December 31.

On the Quy Nhon–Chi Thanh section, Project Director Bui Trong Lai said the cumulative value reached 8.36 trillion VND (316.8 million USD) out of 10.4 trillion VND (80.4%). A total of 78 construction fronts, 903 pieces of equipment, and 2,557 workers are operating in shifts around the clock to accelerate progress.

The Hoai Nhon–Quy Nhon Expressway has mobilised 86 construction fronts, achieving 84.8% of its contractual value, slightly ahead of schedule by 0.88%. However, progress has been affected by land clearance and disbursement challenges, with around 185,000 cu.m of earthwork still pending and only one month left to complete.

To ensure completion of the Chi Thanh–Van Phong section in Q3 2025, PMU 7 is directing contractors to finish non-soft-soil segments, including the Tuy An Tunnel, along with traffic safety systems by September. The unit has pledged strict supervision, immediate handling of bottlenecks, and replacement of underperforming contractors or teams to safeguard progress and quality.

PMU 7 has also instructed contractors and consultants to allocate sufficient staff for documentation, speeding up inspection and payment procedures to maintain financial liquidity and ensure timely disbursement.

To deliver the Hoai Nhon–Quy Nhon project on schedule, Truong Son Construction Corporation has reinforced manpower and machinery, added shifts, and prioritised work on the natural forest section to complete Package 11-XL and the overall project before September 30.

Meanwhile, PMU 85 has requested contractors to add more equipment and carry out night-time work to offset delays. Contractors have mobilised extra resources, implemented multiple shifts, and pushed concurrent work on earthworks, foundations, and pavement, with a firm commitment to opening the expressway to traffic in August and completing the entire project by September 30, in line with directions from the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Construction./.
