Hai Phong (VNA) – The northern port city of Hai Phong deployed more than 11,000 personnel and hundreds of vehicles and equipment to respond to this year’s fourth storm as of 7:00 on August 22, according to the municipal Department of Agriculture and Environment.
Local authorities contacted 1,620 vessels with 4,499 crew members, ensuring no vessels remain unreachable or are operating in dangerous areas.
They are also working to ensure the safety of local residents, vessels, coastal infrastructure, dyke and irrigation systems.
At 5:45 the same day, the northern province of Bac Ninh issued a level II flood warning on the Thuong river at Cau Son hydrological station after the water level reached 15m at 5:40, exceeding the level II threshold.
According to the provincial hydro-meteorological station, the province will continue to see moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms from the August 22 afternoon to August 24, with some areas likely to receive very heavy rainfall. From August 24 evening to August 25 night, moderate to heavy rain is forecast to continue, with rainfall of 30-80 mm.
Prolonged heavy rain is likely to flood crop-growing areas and residential neighbourhoods and disrupt traffic. There is also a high risk of flash floods and landslides in Son Dong, Luc Ngan, Luc Nam and Yen The communes.
Meanwhile, on August 22 morning, Vice Chairman of the Quang Ngai provincial People’s Committee Do Tam Hien inspected flood damage and ongoing recovery efforts in Dak Long border commune.
Many areas in western Quang Ngai communes are still experiencing rain. Heavy rainfall is gradually saturating the soil, increasing landslide risk. Residents are urged to monitor warnings closely and follow authorities’ recommendations to prevent possible losses and damage./.
