HCM City (VNA) – As part of the Tourism Promotion Organisation (TPO) for Global Cities' 12th General Assembly, the 2025 TPO mayors’ meeting took place in Ho Chi Minh City on September 4.
In his speech, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Dung said green transition is an urgent call to action for a sustainable and responsible tourism industry. Tourism, he noted, not only drives economic gains but also stays crucial to preserving natural resources, cultural identity, and community well-being.
The application of eco-friendly technological solutions in tourism activities will make a substantial contribution to the shared goal of greening all destinations, the official stressed.
Delegates from TPO member cities focused their discussions on five priorities: creating a cross-border cooperation framework for smart tourism, fostering green tourism through international partnerships, advancing digital and green transition strategies, enhancing economic and cultural connectivity via cross-border tourism, and defining the role of mayors in shaping supportive policies for smart and green tourism at the local level, while deepening cross-border collaboration within the TPO network.
The meeting also worked toward a Chairman’s Statement for the TPO General Assembly. The document is expected to outline practical initiatives tied to the themes of digital transformation and green transition; provide strategic guidance, propose breakthrough ideas; and set out concrete commitments, joint projects, and feasible ideas to shape the future of global and regional tourism./.
