Rare grey peacock-pheasant discovered in Binh Phuoc

Binh Phuoc (VNS/VNA) - The Forest Protection Department of Dong Phuc districtin Binh Phuoc province has received a grey peacock-pheasant, which isclassified as a critically endangered and rare species of wildlife in need ofconservation.

Ngo Quoc Dat, a resident in southern Binh Phuoc province, discovered an unfamiliar birdon the ground on June 17 when searching for termite mushrooms in a rubberplantation.

Having never seen this species of bird before, he researched on social mediaand realised that it was a grey peacock-pheasant, also known as BurmesePeacock-Pheasant belonging to Group IIB, a critically endangered and rare groupin need of conservation.

Dat contacted the Forest Protection Department of Dong Phu district andcompleted the necessary procedures to hand over the bird.

The Department will nurture and take care of it for a period of time.

Once the health of the Burmese Peacock-Pheasant is stable, the relevantauthorities will carry out procedures to release the bird back into the naturalenvironment in accordance with regulations./.
