Hanoi (VNA) - AI-powered cameras will replace police, automatically detect violations around the clock, and send violation notifications within 2 hours, according to the Traffic Police Department.
By using a surveillance camera system integrated with artificial intelligence (AI), the department's command centre can automatically identify traffic violations and disruptive behaviours, and retrace the route of a vehicle suspected of causing an accident.
According to Colonel Pham Quang Huy, the department’s Deputy Director, the command centre will fully meet the requirements of state management in the field of traffic, including connecting data on vehicle registration, inspection, tax, customs, health and data from other functional departments of the Ministry of Public Security related to people and vehicles.
The Traffic Police force will transfer the fastest information on violation acts to the vehicle owner through the VNeTraffic application. Currently, AI can identify about 20 violations of both cars and motorbikes.
In addition, the centre also automatically detects acts of disturbing public order and recognising the faces of the wanted.
The entire coordination, analysis, recording, and processing works of the centre are completely automated, aiming to make records and pay fines online, without the need for violators to go to the police headquarters.
Currently, the Traffic Police force is developing its own specialised application. In case of vehicle violations, hit-and-run accidents or law violations, police units will enter all information into this application. The information will then be transferred to the entire force by the command centre, added Colonel Huy.
Currently, the Traffic Police Department has piloted sending traffic violation warnings via the VNeTraffic application to vehicles violating traffic laws on Noi Bai - Lao Cai, Da Nang - Quang Ngai, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay and Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressways./.
