Hanoi (VNA) - The capital city of Hanoi saw nearly 179,000 people find employment during the first nine months of 2025, surpassing its full-year target by 5.84% and edging up 0.07% year-on-year, according to the municipal Department of Home Affairs (DoHA).
Of the total, 45,278 jobs were generated using 3.76 trillion VND (142.6 million USD) in capital from the city’s budget entrusted in the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP).
Another 19,859 people found employment through job consulting services, job fairs, and the city’s employment service centre. Meanwhile, 3,052 workers secured overseas jobs, and 110,686 others became employed through other channels.
In September alone, the city created 19,016 new jobs, including 2,254 funded through 219 billion VND in entrusted capital via the VBSP. Besides, 1,162 workers found jobs through job fairs and employment services, 345 through overseas labour programmes, and 15,255 through other forms of job creation.
Throughout the month, the Hanoi Employment Service Centre organised 19 job fairs, which attracted 557 enterprises and 4,040 job seekers. This resulted in 2,755 interviews and 975 successful hires.
Alongside job creation efforts, the DoHA approved unemployment insurance benefits for 44,948 workers, totalling over 1.58 trillion VND. As many as 30,013 beneficiaries received job counselling and placement support, while 710 were offered vocational training assistance worth more than 2.8 billion VND.
These outcomes were attributed to the city’s comprehensive labour market support measures, including the implementation of five action plans on employment generation, labour market development, and occupational safety for 2025.
The DoHA has also worked with relevant agencies to step up labour supply-demand matching and promote sustainable job transitions.
In addition, the department has simplified procedures for issuing work permits to foreigners, helping attract skilled professionals and experts to meet the city’s growing demand for high-quality human resources.
Between January and September, the DoHA issued, renewed, or revalidated work permits or exemption certificates for 8,009 foreign workers, including 4,753 new permits, 1,787 renewals, 1,115 reissuances, and 354 exemptions. The department also granted, renewed, or extended licences for 49 employment service providers, while revoking 21 licences for non-compliance.
Regarding occupational safety and hygiene, the DoHA has conducted risk assessments at several affiliated units, organised training sessions for nearly 500 commune- and ward-level officials, employers, trade union representatives, and safety officers, and inspected 38 enterprises and construction projects for compliance with regulations on labour safety, hygiene, and fire prevention./.
