Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh emphasised that 80 years ago, on August 19, 1945, the historic rally of the people of the capital took place in this square, starting the General Uprising to seize power across the country. It was here that the revolutionary fire, the spirit of patriotism and the determination to gain independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people burned and spread, creating a brilliant milestone for the nation, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam - on September 2, 1945, opening the era of independence and freedom associated with socialism, bringing the people from the status of slaves to the masters of the country and destiny.

After 80 years of protection, construction and development, especially nearly 40 years of renovation, Vietnam has achieved many great achievements in all fields, affirming its international position and prestige. In that journey, Hanoi - the Capital of thousand-year culture, the Heroic City, the City for Peace has always been the national political and administrative centre, and at the same time, the locomotive of economy, culture, education, science - technology and international integration, clearly demonstrating the strong aspiration to rise of the Party Organisation, administration and people of the capital, he said.

Thanh affirmed that the organisation of the art programme right at the August Revolution Square not only honoured the glorious history, patriotism, and revolutionary spirit, but also sent a strong message about the will of self-reliance, the desire for development, and the determination to continue the heroic tradition.

The programme also demonstrated the commitment of the Party Organisation, administration, and people of Hanoi in promoting the potential, internal strength, and building a green - smart - modern capital, thus joining hands with the whole country in realising the goal of a strong, prosperous, and happy Vietnam, the official added.

The programme consisted of three chapters, six episodes. It was elaborately staged, recording typical moments in 80 years since the success of the August Revolution. From the heroic atmosphere of the revolutionary autumn days, with the brilliant sunshine of Ba Dinh and the resounding Declaration of Independence; to the heroic epic of the Ho Chi Minh era with the heroic song of Hanoi, the fierce days of the “Dien Bien Phu in the air” battle; and then the “spring trains” - the symbolic image of a gallant, elegant, and steadfast Hanoi on the path to building a rich, civilised, and integrated capital.

The programme’s message aimed to evoke pride, love for the homeland and the country, and gratitude to previous generations, and at the same time, inspire the younger generation to continue and promote the heroic tradition of the nation./.
