Innovation, digital transformation not limited by gender, age, or religion: PM

Notably, the institutional framework for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation has been continuously improved; digital infrastructure has grown rapidly; the digital economy has made significant strides; digital data systems are being developed, connected, and utilised more effectively. The national innovation system and startup ecosystem are gradually taking shape and proving effective. Several Vietnamese enterprises have gradually mastered core and foundational technologies, and the country’s international rankings continue to improve.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam must strongly develop and apply science and technology, and proactively promote innovation and digital transformation to create fresh momentum and open up new development spaces, and the scheme must not be limited by border, gender, age, and religion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has stated.

PM Chinh, who is also Chairman of the Central Emulation and Commendation Council, made this remarks at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 24 to launch a national emmulation movement on innovation and digital transformation.

The Party and State have paid special attention to developing science and technology development, and promoting innovation, and digital transformation, he said, adding that these efforts have been strongly implemented in a coordinated manner from the central to local levels.

The national innovation system and startup ecosystem are gradually taking shape and proving effective. Several Vietnamese enterprises have gradually mastered core and foundational technologies, and the country’s international rankings continue to improve.

PM Chinh highlighted the significance of the event, stating that it seeks to concretise and bring the Party’s guidelines outlined in Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on creating breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation into life.

The movement aims to generate fresh momentum for implementing the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, and the Government’s Resolution No. 03/NQ-CP. It sets strategic determination to reform mindsets and improving institutions to foster a favourable environment for innovation and digital transformation; develop breakthrough technological infrastructure and high-quality human resources to meet the demands of the era; and promote comprehensive digital transformation to modernise the economy and improve the quality of life for people.

Chinh emphasised that science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation are not only objective necessities and inevitable trends but also the only way to breakthrough; and enable the nation to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, build a strong and independent economy, and create a modern and civilised society, helping the country stand alongside powers worldwide.

He noted that the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation has achieved significant progress, making important contributions to socio-economic development, national defence and security, disaster prevention, environmental protection, and climate change response.

To successfully achieve the goal of becoming upper middle-income country with a modern industrial base by 2030, and high-income developed one by 2045, Vietnam must demonstrate greater determination and take more decisive actions in this work, he noted.

According to the PM, Vietnam targets to achieve advanced capacity in science, technology, and innovation across key sectors, ranking among the leading upper-middle-income countries. The digital economy is projected to account for at least 30% of the national GDP. More than 80% of citizens and businesses are anticipated to use online public services; and digital infrastructure will be advanced, high-capacity, and ultra-broadband, comparable to that of developed nations.

To ensure the success of the emulation movement, the PM urged Party committees and authorities at all levels to take the lead in improving digital capability and promoting innovation. He called for a joint effort, stressing the necessity to harness the collective strength of the entire political system, with active participation from entrepreneurs, enterprises, scientists, intellectuals, and the public, in the scheme.
