- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Lao counterpart, Sonexay Siphandone, co-chaired an investment cooperation conference in Vientiane on January 9, as part of the Vietnamese leader’s trip to the neighbouring country.

- State President Luong Cuong visited and extended Lunar New Year (Tet) greetings to the Party organisation, administration, people, and armed forces of Pa Tan commune in Sin Ho district of the northern noutainous province of Lai Chau, and presented gifts to local policy beneficiary families and poor households, on January 9 as part of the Spring in border areas warms people's hearts” programme.

Highlighting the increasingly strengthened political and diplomatic ties between the two countries, the NA leader mentioned the landmark State visit to Cuba by To Lam in his capacity as Party General Secretary and State President in September 2024. The top legislator expressed his joy at the good relations between Vietnam and China, which has recorded many remarkable results. - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on January 9 urged relevant units to accelerate the progress of sub-projects to complete the Long Thanh International Airport project as soon as possible.

In a working session with the units during his inspection trip to the construction site in the southern province of Dong Nai, the Deputy PM hailed efforts made by contractors and workers to ensure the progress of sub-projects, saying that sub-projects No. 1 and No. 2 on constructing office buildings of state management agencies, aviation management facilities, are making good progress. - The official Logo for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue Relations was officially announced in a ceremony at the ASEAN Secretariat's headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 9.

- Vietnam’s inflation in 2025 is projected to remain within a manageable range of 3% to 4.5%, in line with the National Assembly’s goal to keep it around 4.5%, matching expert forecasts, heard a seminar held in Hanoi on January 9.

Dr. Nguyen Duc Do, Vice Director of the Institute of Economics and Finance under the Academy of Finance, said that inflation in 2025 will be influenced by both global and domestic factors. Internationally, the global economy is expected to grow at a steady pace of 3.2%, matching the growth rate of 2024. Meanwhile, commodity prices, including oil and raw materials, are anticipated to slightly decline, which could ease inflationary pressures. Read full story

- The Singapore-based United Overseas Bank (UOB) has raised its GDP growth forecast for Vietnam in 2025 to 7%, up from the previous projection of 6%, given the strong momentum that carried over from 2024 and pricing in the potential downside from future trade conflicts under the US administration.

According to UOB experts, Vietnam ended 2024 on a strong note, with real GDP growth surging to 7.55% in the fourth quarter of 2024. This figure was well above median consensus view of 6.7% and the bank's forecast of 5.2%. Read full story

Draft laws must support management reform, stronger decentralisation: PM

According to Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Van Tuyen, the revision focuses on four major areas.
