Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and his spouse, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, will make an official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from October 28 to 30.

The visit will be made at the invitation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a brief meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 13th ASEAN–US Summit, held within the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 26.

At the meeting, PM Chinh conveyed the invitation from Party General Secretary To Lam and other high-ranking Vietnamese leaders to President Trump to visit Vietnam. The latter gladly accepted the invitation, expressing his keen interest and intention to arrange the trip in the near future. Read full story

- A Joint Statement on a US-Vietnam Framework for an Agreement on Reciprocal, Fair, and Balanced Trade was announced on October 26, on the occasion of President Donald Trump's and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s attendance at the 47th ASEAN Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from October 26-28.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that the Joint Statement reflects the outcomes of reciprocal trade negotiations between the two countries to date, recognising the efforts by both governments and business communities to foster a balanced, stable and sustainable economic and trade relationship, in line with the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh joined fellow Southeast Asian leaders and US President Donald Trump for the 13th ASEAN-US Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on October 26, outlining four key orientations to advance ASEAN-US relations substantively and effectively.

In his speech, PM Chinh congratulated President Trump on the US’s recent standout achievements and commended his diplomatic efforts to foster dialogue and the peaceful settlement of global conflicts. He particularly highlighted US cooperation with Malaysia - this year’s ASEAN Chair, and other member states in facilitating dialogue between Cambodia and Thailand that led to their joint declaration. - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and leaders of ASEAN countries on October 26 attended the Plenary Session and the Retreat Session of the 47th ASEAN Summit chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking at the summit, PM Chinh emphasised that “inclusivity and sustainability” are the strategic choice and requirement of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and suggested the regional bloc strongly promote three sources of strategic strength. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the third Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Leaders Meeting in Malaysia on the afternoon of October 26.

Part of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, the meeting brought together 11 AZEC participating countries - Australia, Japan, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had bilateral meetings with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi as well as leaders of ASEAN, the World Bank, and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) on October 26 on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits in Kuala Lumpur.

Meeting with Lao PM Sonexay Siphandone, PM Chinh expressed deep gratitude to the Lao Party, State, and Government for their sympathy and support for the Vietnamese people affected by recent typhoons and floods. - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung will attend the ninth edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference, to be held in Saudi Arabia from October 27-30, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy PM Dung will also pay a working visit to the United Kingdom to promote cooperation in science-technology and innovation, the ministry said. Read full story

- As a neighbour of both Cambodia and Thailand and a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam is deeply interested in and welcomes the signing of the peace pact between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said.

Responding to reporters’ questions on October 26 regarding Vietnam’s reaction to the signing of the peace document on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related summits in Malaysia, Hang stated that this is an important and positive step, reflecting the two countries’ commitment to peace, cooperation, and development, in line with the ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC)./. Minister of Foreign Affairs receives Japan’s Tochigi Governor

PM suggests acceleration of Laos–Vietnam University establishment

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the two sides should strengthen the teaching and learning of Vietnamese and Lao in both countries, including introducing Vietnamese as an optional foreign language in Lao schools, while continuing academic exchanges and programmes on tradition education to nurture the special bilateral relationship, he said.
