Hanoi (VNA) – South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa laid a wreath and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum in Hanoi on October 23 afternoon as part of his ongoing state visit to Vietnam.
President Ramaphosa also laid a wreath at the monument to heroic martyrs on Bac Son street.
The visit comes nine years after his previous trip to Vietnam as Vice President, and is the first state visit by a South African head of state in 18 years. It marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relations, following the historic phone talks between Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam and President Ramaphosa on April 22.
This event reflects the determination of both countries to elevate their bilateral ties. It is expected to mark a pivotal moment, strengthening and expanding Vietnam – South Africa relations in various areas.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on December 22, 1993, the two countries have continuously nurtured their friendship, achieving significant accomplishments across various fields. South Africa is currently the only African country with which Vietnam has established a Partnership for Cooperation and Development./.
