Vietnam wins triple runner-up titles at world bodybuilding championships

With 10 golds, five silvers, and two bronzes, Vietnam equaled its 2024 medal count but failed to retain its ranking amid fierce competition from other leading nations. Vietnam achieved a trio of runner-up finishes, placing second in the men’s team, women’s team, and overall ranking.

Hanoi (VNA) – By winning another gold medal in men’s classic bodybuilding on the final competition day, Vietnam concluded the 16th World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championship 2025 with three runner-up titles.

Competing on November 16 morning, Asian champion in 2024 Nguyen Thanh Tien became the new world champion in the men’s classic bodybuilding for athletes up to 1.82m. The bodybuilder focused entirely on the Indonesia event, skipping multiple competitions throughout the year to pursue his dream of standing atop the world stage.

Hosted by the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF), the 16th event of this kind took place from November 14–16 on Batam Island, Indonesia, featuring 34 delegations worldwide competing for 46 sets of medals.

With 10 golds, five silvers, and two bronzes, Vietnam equaled its 2024 medal count but failed to retain its ranking amid fierce competition from other leading nations. Vietnam achieved a trio of runner-up finishes, placing second in the men’s team, women’s team, and overall ranking.

India made a strong impression by topping the medal table with 11 golds, nine silvers, and five bronzes, while the rising star Mongolia claimed third with nine golds, four silvers, and five bronzes./.

SEA Games 33: Shooting, Wushu secure silvers

On the Wushu mat, Dang Tran Phuong Nhi secured a silver medal after competing in the women’s southern fist, southern staff and southern broadsword events, finishing with a total score of 29.112 points.

SEA Games 33: Vietnam excels with record-breaking performances

The trio of Nguyen Thuy Trang, Trinh Thu Vinh and Trieu Thi Hoa Hong delivered an impressive performance in the women’s 10m air pistol team event on December 14. Competing with consistency and precision, the Vietnamese shooters amassed a total of 1,711 points to win the gold medal and shatter the SEA Games record.

SEA Games 33: Vietnam win gold in women's canoe double

In the qualifying round, they led with a time of 44.875 seconds. In the final, the duo continued to display outstanding form, completing the race in 43.419 seconds, finishing first ahead of strong competitors from Indonesia and Thailand.
