Quang Ninh (VNA) – The annual spring meeting between Vietnam's northern provinces of Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, and Ha Giang and their border-sharing Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China as well as the 16th conference of the joint working committee are set to take place in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh, from February 19 to 22.

According to Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh, Deputy Director of the Quang Ninh Department of Foreign Affairs, these programmes aim to translate into reality the high-level perception between leaders of the Vietnamese and Chinese Parties and States.

The events seek to maintain high-level exchanges and strengthen the friendship among the five localities, while enhancing their practical, effective, and comprehensive cooperation. They will also provide a platform to address challenges in the collaboration process.

A notable addition to this year’s activities is the participation of the northern port city of Hai Phong as an invited guest, who is expected to become an official member by 2026. Quang Ninh will also host an exhibition showcasing OCOP (One Commune One Product) goods as well as investment attraction policies of participating localities.

During the events, participants are set to review the implementation of their agreements signed in the past editions. They will also discuss and seek concurrence on cooperation directions for 2025 and beyond.

Also featured will be the signing of key documents, including the minutes of the spring talks among secretaries of the Party committees of the Vietnamese provinces and Chinese region. A joint communiqué for the meeting and the conference will also be issued. Furthermore, approximately 40 agencies from both sides are expected to sign bilateral cooperation pacts at provincial, departmental, and local levels.

Since their inception – the meeting in 2016 and the conference in 2008, these initiatives have facilitated significant progress in cross-border exchanges and cooperation, recognised as highly effective locality-to-locality diplomatic efforts./.
