Hanoi (VNA) - The overall security situation in Vietnam’s civil aviation sector was fundamentally maintained in the first five months of 2025, with no serious incidents that could threaten its security and safety occurring, the Ministry of Public Security reported at a meeting of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee on June 5.
Specifically, the ministry directed its specialised units and the police forces of 17 localities which own airports to closely coordinate with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), and other relevant forces to ensure the security and safety of 116,212 flights across 22 airports and airbases nationwide. Security screening was conducted for 227,753 tonnes of cargo and baggage.
Units also carried out thorough patrols, inspections, and monitoring of individuals, vehicles, and items entering or exiting restricted and isolated areas at airports; and actively prevented theft, smuggling, and trade fraud via air routes. Operations were conducted in accordance with established procedures, ensuring order and security within terminals, public areas, and aircraft parking zones.
Since taking over the responsibility for ensuring aviation security from March 1, the Ministry of Public Security has handled 49 aviation security violations at 22 airports.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, who is head of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee, urged the Ministry of Public Security to review and propose solutions to ensure synchronisation between equipment, technology, and personnel within the aviation security control system.
It was also asked to enhance coordination and cohesion between security forces and other units operating at airports, and to expand the scope and methods of aviation security control in accordance with recommendations from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The Ministry of National Defence was required to coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to study and develop legal, technical, and investment solutions related to equipment and technology; and mobilise the political system, social organisations, and the public to participate in the early detection, prevention, and mitigation of potential threats to aviation security and safety at the grassroots level.
The Ministry of Construction should take the lead and collaborate with the Ministry of Home Affairs to study a model for an independent and objective Aircraft Accident Investigation Council, and develop a mechanism for close cooperation with aircraft accident investigation agencies of other countries./.
