Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged ministries, agencies, and localities to act with “greater speed and boldness” to carry out Vietnam’s railway projects at the second meeting of the Steering Committee for key national railway projects in Hanoi on April 26.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for the establishment of free trade zones (FTZs) in key economic regions and the exploration of duty-free ports as part of a broader effort to stimulate economic growth, attract investment and position Vietnam as a leading logistics hub in the digital era.

The initiative is part of Directive 47, which outlines urgent tasks and strategic measures aimed at accelerating national growth this year. Read full story

- Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and his spouse will pay an official visit to Vietnam from April 27 to 29, expected to further consolidate the deep-rooted friendship between people of the two nations while laying a solid foundation for the sustainable and strong development of Vietnam – Japan relations

Made at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh, this marks PM Shigeru’s first visit to Vietnam since assuming office, and the first by a Japanese Government leader since the two countries elevated their ties to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World" in November 2023, reflecting the importance the Japanese Government attaches to Vietnam’s growing role and stature in the region. - Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security General Vilay Lakhamphong on April 25 highly valued the cooperation results between the public security ministries of Vietnam and Laos, expecting the two sides will strengthen cooperation in various areas.

Welcoming Vietnamese Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang, who escorted President Luong Cuong during a state visit to Laos on April 24–25, the host expressed his hope for the two ministries to continue strengthening cooperation in combating crimes, especially drug trafficking and high-tech crime, as well as in enhancing training for their personnel. - A preliminary state-level rehearsal for the grand parade commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975–2025) was held along Le Duan street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, on April 25 evening.

The preliminary state-level rehearsal featured 25 military and militia formations, 17 police formations, and 12 formations of mass organisations. Read full story

- Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi is expected to handle over 2,000 passengers per peak hour during the April 30 – May 1 holiday due to an increasing travel demand in both domestic and international routes.

According to statistics from the airport, during the April 30 – May 1 holiday this year, the peak day will fall on April 29 and April 4 with seven peak hour frames and three peak hour frames, respectively./. Read full story

NA Chairman chairs meeting on preparations for 16th NA’s first session

PM’s Russia visit yields substantive outcomes: Deputy FM

During Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Russia on March 22-25, Vietnam and Russia reached strong consensus on deepening political trust and mutual understanding, building on their long-standing traditional friendship.

Vietnamese naval ship completes mission at Kakadu Exercise 2026

Ship 016–Quang Trung of Brigade 162 under Naval Region 4 departed Sydney Harbour on the morning of March 25 for home after successfully completing activities within the framework of the Exercise Kakadu Fleet Review 2026 marking the 125th anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy and the multilateral naval exercise Kakadu 2026.

Vietnamese, Philippine foreign ministers hold phone talks

They agreed to further elevate cooperation across all areas, including politics, diplomacy, defence, security, economy, and people-to-people exchanges, contributing to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (July 12, 1976 – 2026).

95th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union marked in Laos
