- Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung chaired a meeting in Hanoi on June 23 to discuss a draft project on developing research centres, testing facilities and key laboratories serving strategic technologies.

Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan described the project as a strategic, comprehensive plan for the national laboratory system, stressing the need for a new approach, innovative thinking and close inter-agency coordination. Read full story

- Representatives from four Vietnamese educational establishments, including the Mekong University, Can Tho University of Technology, Saigon College of Technology, and Can Tho Vocational College, held a working session with Hoseo University in the Republic of Korea’s Asan city on June 22 to hammer out a workforce training partnership.

The session focused on semiconductors, electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital transformation, all fields demanding skilled workers. Read full story

- Doctors at the Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children have successfully saved and cared for an extremely premature baby girl weighing just 720 grams at birth, the daughter of a Singaporean couple visiting Vietnam.

After more than three months of intensive treatment and specialised neonatal care, the infant was discharged from hospital on June 22 in stable condition. She is now breathing on her own, feeding well and weighs 2.655 kilograms, the hospital said on June 23. Read full story

- Da Nang International Airport on June 23 began a six-day trial of a new unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) monitoring system designed to detect and track drones and other unauthorised flying devices that could threaten aviation safety.

Installed at the airport’s operations centre, the system is capable of automatically detecting, identifying and tracking unmanned flying devices operating within the airport area. During the trial period, authorities will assess the technology’s detection accuracy, operational range and target-tracking capabilities. Read full story

- Hanoi will discontinue paper monthly bus passes on its subsidised public bus network from July 1, accelerating the rollout of a cashless electronic ticketing system, the municipal Department of Construction said June 23.

The phase-out is part of a broader push to modernise fare collection and expand digital payments across the capital’s public transport network. The Hanoi Traffic Management and Operations Centre is replacing all paper monthly passes with electronic transport cards valid on every subsidised bus route. Read full story

- Vietnam’s agricultural sector is targeting export revenue of 73–74 billion USD in 2026, but increasingly severe weather conditions linked to the El Niño phenomenon are expected to pose significant challenges in the second half of the year.

According to Tran Gia Long, Deputy Director of the Planning-Finance Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, agricultural exports have maintained positive momentum in the first half of 2026, supported by the effective utilisation of free trade agreements and efforts to diversify export markets. - Business sentiment in Vietnam is rebounding strongly despite a challenging operating environment marked by rising costs and growing global uncertainties, including prolonged geopolitical tensions and trade-related pressures, according to the recently released Business Outlook Study 2026 by the United Overseas Bank (UOB).

The study found that 85% of Vietnamese enterprises reported positive business sentiment, a sharp increase from 48% in 2025, when business confidence was weighed down by uncertainties surrounding US tariff policies and related trade developments. Read full story

- While lychee output in the northern province of Bac Ninh is estimated to fall by more than 50% this year due to unfavourable weather during the flowering stage, farmers are still enjoying a successful harvest season as prices stay at record highs.

The province is home to more than 29,800ha of “thieu” lychee orchards, with total output expected to reach around 125,000 tonnes in 2026. As the peak harvest season gets underway, growers are rushing to bring in the crop./. Read full story

HCMA eyes expanded research, training cooperation with Ireland

Vietnam, Canada seek to promote defence cooperation

Vietnam, US seek stronger defence cooperation

The minister reaffirmed that Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence would continue to coordinate closely and facilitate efforts to search for US personnel missing in action (MIA) during the war. He also called on the US to share more information, documents and belongings related to Vietnamese soldiers and support Vietnam in enhancing DNA analysis capabilities to identify war martyrs’ remains.

Indian Navy flotilla begins goodwill visit to Ho Chi Minh City
