Hanoi (VNA) - Starting November 18, all passengers on Metro Line 2A (Cat Linh – Ha Dong) will use a new access control system featuring electronic identification, authentication, and biometric recognition, the operator Hanoi Railways Company Limited (Hanoi Metro) said on November 4.

Under the new system, passengers purchasing single-ride tickets can use the Hanoi Metro App on their smartphones to buy tickets and receive a QR code for gate access. Those without smartphones can buy tickets at station counters and receive a QR code sticker valid for a single entry through the gate.

For passengers aged 60 and above eligible for free rides under the city’s policy, they can either use their chip-based Citizen ID cards to pass through the gate or download the Hanoi Metro App and complete the identification process to receive free digital tickets.

Meanwhile, passengers currently using pilot electronic tickets issued by the city’s Traffic Management and Operation Centre are advised to visit ticket counters for assistance.

Hanoi Metro said the introduction of digital identity, electronic verification, and biometric technologies marks a significant advancement in passenger service and operational management. The new system enhances safety, minimises risk, improves convenience, and contributes to building a modern, smart public transport network for the capital./.
