HCM City (VNA) – The International Police Volleyball Tournament 2025 kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on August 26, bringing together more than 150 athletes from four Southeast Asian nations.

Hosted by Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security in cooperation with the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, the event marks the 80th anniversary of the National Day (September 2), the 80th anniversary of the People’s Public Security Force (August 19), and the 20th anniversary of the All People's Day for Public Security Protection (August 19).

Six teams are three Vietnamese sides, namely the People’s Public Security, the Army, and Hanoi, and three visitors: the Lao Ministry of Public Security, Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior, and Indonesia’s Police Force.

Speaking at the opening, Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung, Deputy Minister of Public Security, warmly welcomed international teams to Vietnam, calling the country a safe, friendly destination with a proud history and rich culture. He expressed his hope that the tournament would strengthen regional friendship and cooperation, both on and off the court, while fostering deeper ties between Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and regional police forces.

Right after the opening ceremony, fans were treated to a thrilling clash between the host Public Security team and Indonesia’s Police squad.

The Indonesian team showed their dominance early, taking the first two sets 25–20 and 25–17 with sharp attacks and solid coordination.

The home side fought back fiercely in the third, pushing the scoreline to a nail-biting 23–23. But Indonesia’s composure proved decisive as they closed out the set 25–23, sealing a 3–0 sweep.

In the tournament’s first match earlier in the day, Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior side outlasted the Army team 3–1 (28–26, 25–23, 22–25, 25–21).

The tournament is free for spectators and runs through August 30./.
