Tay Ninh seeks stronger cooperation with neighbouring Cambodian provinces

Tay Ninh holds a strategic position along the East–West Economic Corridor, acting as a key gateway linking Cambodia with ASEAN. With nearly 369 km of shared border, an extensive network of border gates and a robust system of industrial zones, the province has sustained GRDP growth of 9.52%—the highest in Việt Nam’s southeast—and attracted over 1,952 FDI projects worth 24.5 billion USD.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Tay Ninh province has reaffirmed its determination to advance practical and effective cooperation with Cambodian border localities, with a view to transforming the shared frontier into an area of peace, friendship and shared prosperity, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Doan Trung Kien said.

Addressing the 13th Conference on Cooperation and Development of Vietnamese and Cambodian border provinces on November 28, Kien detailed a range of measures to bolster collaboration between Tây Ninh and its Cambodian neighbours. He stressed that border development represents not only an economic priority but also a political commitment to building a stable, friendly and sustainable boundary.

He noted that Tay Ninh holds a strategic position along the East–West Economic Corridor, acting as a key gateway linking Cambodia with ASEAN. With nearly 369 km of shared border, an extensive network of border gates and a robust system of industrial zones, the province has sustained GRDP growth of 9.52%—the highest in Việt Nam’s southeast—and attracted over 1,952 FDI projects worth 24.5 billion USD. Its budget revenue has also surpassed 124% of the yearly estimate.

These strengths, Kien said, have helped position Tay Ninh as a dynamic hub for investment, trade and tourism, while consolidating its role as an important connector in Vietnam–Cambodia border cooperation. The province has concluded three comprehensive cooperation agreements and 36 coordination mechanisms with Svay Rieng, Prey Veng and Tboung Khmum provinces. It is intensifying trade and tourism promotion and accelerating the development of the Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone into a new regional commercial centre, as Vietnam–Cambodia trade reached 2.74 billion USD since early 2025.

Bilateral ties have also been strengthened through cultural and sports exchanges, community twinning programmes, high-level visits, and the successful second Vietnam–Cambodia Border Defence Friendship Exchange recently held in Tay Ninh. On December 5, the two sides are set to open the Tan Nam–Meun Chey international border gate pair, creating fresh momentum for cooperation.

Coordination in border security has continued to improve, resulting in effective prevention of smuggling and cross-border crime. Tay Ninh has also worked closely with Cambodian authorities in the search and repatriation of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers’ remains, with 8,627 sets recovered to date.

The same day, Kien attended the Vietnam–Cambodia Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM), during which both delegations discussed key areas of cooperation, including cross-border trade, border gate infrastructure connectivity, border management and the implementation of existing agreements. His participation highlighted Tay Ninh’s proactive role in strengthening cooperation and fostering a peaceful, friendly and sustainably developed shared border.

The official also paid a courtesy visit to the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, expressing hope that the Embassy will continue to support Tay Ninh in promoting cooperation and economic development across the Vietnam–Cambodia border and with neighbouring Cambodian provinces./.
