Jakarta (VNA) – Assoc. Prof., Ph.D Dinna Prapto Raharja, Senior Policy Advisor at the Synergy Policies Research and Training Institute, described the relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia as an inspiring partnership at a new height.
Talking to Vietnam News Agency's correspondents in Jakarta about the results of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam’s state visit to Indonesia, Dinna said the upgrade of bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership during the trip is highly positive for both countries.
For Indonesia, this is an important step as it usually establishes this level of relations with major nations. The latest move underscores Vietnam's importance to Indonesia, she stressed.
Dinna expressed great interest in Vietnam’s rapidly growing economy, noting that for Indonesia to be part of the global supply chain, it should further boost collaboration with Vietnam.
In terms of economic cooperation, there are many areas where Indonesia can collaborate with Vietnam under their comprehensive strategic partnership, creating broader and deeper cooperation opportunities, she said.
Beyond artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor, and energy, the two countries can also work together in many other fields, she said, expressing her belief that the comprehensive strategic partnership will lead to more tangible progress in bilateral relations.
According to the expert, a key outcome of Lam's visit is the consensus on fostering cooperation between the two countries' businesses. This is essential for advancing economic ties between Vietnam and Indonesia.
The lack of mutual information among businesses has sometimes led to trust-related issues—a major challenge that needs to be addressed, she noted, showing her hope that under the new cooperation framework, more Vietnamese companies will gain confidence in working with Indonesian counterparts.
Dinna underscored the critical role of legal issues, noting that with economic openness, Indonesia can explore closer ties with Vietnamese legislators. She also expressed her impression of Vietnam’s recent administrative reforms, which she perceives Indonesia should learn from.
She opined that with the comprehensive strategic partnership, the two countries can inspire each other to fully capitalise on opportunities in science and technology.
In addition, Vietnam is currently recognised as a hub with crucial gateways in the region and has become an indispensable part of the global supply chain. Therefore, Dinna said she hopes policymakers in Indonesia will recognise that in the coming years, further acceleration is needed to make the relationship between the two countries closer and deeper.
Regarding political links, she held that cooperation with Vietnam can bring benefits to Indonesia. This elevated relationship can help both sides cooperate more closely with other ASEAN member states to ensure regional stability, and strengthen security and defence ties.
She also hoped that connections between the two peoples will become closer, with more opportunities for exchange in education, research, and other areas./.
