Tokyo (VNA) – A delegation of Vietnam’s National Assembly Standing Committee, led by Chairwoman of the NA’s Committee for Deputy Affairs Nguyen Thanh Hai, paid a working visit to Japan from August 28–30.

While there, they had meetings with representatives of the upper and lower houses, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and Saitama prefecture council.

Representatives of the upper and lower houses expressed their willingness to share Japan’s experience in election, and noted hope for stronger cooperation between the two countries across all sectors.

For her part, Hai expressed appreciation for Japan’s support in promoting bilateral cooperation in recent times.

She emphasised that the cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese NA and the Japanese House of Councillors (upper house) signed in December 2024 provides a key foundation for enhancing bilateral and multilateral legislative cooperation. She proposed expanding delegation exchanges, particularly among young and female parliamentarians, leveraging MPs as bridges for local and business cooperation, and strengthening collaboration between specialised committees, especially in areas like election and organisation.

The two sides agreed that parliamentary cooperation is a key channel within the Vietnam – Japan comprehensive strategic partnership, contributing to strengthening political trust, promoting people-to-people exchanges, and expanding cooperation across areas.

Meanwhile, officials from the Japanese ministry introduced their electoral system and shared experiences on candidate eligibility and support measures during elections.

Hai emphasised the importance of sharing election experience, showing her hope for valuable exchanges with Japan in training to improve the capacity, skills, and expertise of officials serving election work, and applying digital transformation in the work.

On August 28, the delegation visited Saitama prefecture, where the two sides affirmed that local-level cooperation is an important channel for promoting economic, trade, and labour cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Japan.

Hai praised nearly 100 Saitama-based companies investing in Vietnam, highlighting Saitama’s potential for cooperation, especially in manufacturing and high-tech sectors./.
