Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck left Hanoi on August 22 morning, successfully concluding their five-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of State President Luong Cuong and his spouse.

During their stay, the King and Queen laid wreaths and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum, and fallen heroes at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs on Bac Son street in Hanoi. Read full story

- The first joint rehearsal for the grand military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), coded mission A80, took place at 8:00pm on August 21 at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi.

Attending and inspecting the rehearsal were Politburo members: Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, head of the Party Central Committee’s Commissions for Information, Education, and Mass Mobilisation; and General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defence. - Vietnam Today, the country’s first international television channel, will officially go on air on September 7, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2).

Vietnam Today is produced and broadcast by Vietnam Television (VTV), established under Decision No.747/QD-TTg dated April 11, 2025, by the Prime Minister, on the implementation of the international television service to promote Vietnam to the world. Read full story

- The business community has plays a central role in advancing the sustainable development agenda in Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc said at the 12th Vietnam Corporate Sustainability Forum (VCSF) in Hanoi on August 22.

- Vietnam has solidified its position as one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing economies after eight decades of national development, according Emeritus Professor Carl Thayer from the University of New South Wales (Australia).

In a recent interview with the Vietnam News Agency on the threshold of the 80th National Day (September 2), Thayer, a renowned Vietnam specialist, highlighted the country’s robust economic growth since “Doi moi” (renewal). Although the COVID-19 pandemic posed formidable challenges, the economy rebounded quickly, posting GDP growth of 5.3% in 2023 before accelerating to nearly 7.1% in 2024. This year, the Vietnamese Government eyes 8% in economic expansion, with expectations to move towards double-digit growth in subsequent years. Read full story

Vietnam deploys first joint military operations officer to UNISFA

The Ministry of National Defence held a ceremony in Hanoi on March 27 to present decisions of the State President and the Minister of National Defence assigning two officers to undertake duties at the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) and the European Union Training Mission (EUTM).

Vietnamese, Bulgarian localities foster cooperation

Vietnam-Morocco friendship continues to deepen

The two countries have established a range of cooperation mechanisms, including an intergovernmental committee; political consultations between the two foreign ministries (set up in 2004); a sub-committee on trade and industry cooperation (2022); the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association (2017); and the Vietnam-Morocco Friendship and Cooperation Association (2021).

Deputy PM meets with leaders of UN, leading US corporations

At discussions with financial institutions and investment funds, the Deputy PM said the visit aimed to concretise high-level commitments between Vietnam and the US under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly following Party General Secretary To Lam’s US visit in February, while introducing the VIFC and calling for investment and partnerships in the finance and banking sectors.
