– The 12th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee opened in Hanoi on the morning of July 18 under the chair of Party General Secretary To Lam.

– Party General Secretary To Lam chaired the 12th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee, that opened in Hanoi on July 18, during which he demanded identifying general goals and strategic breakthroughs in the coming term, focusing rapid and sustainable development based on science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.

At the event, delegates focused their discussion and opinions on three major groups of contents related to preparations for the 14th National Party Congress, the development of a political and legal foundation for continued reform in the coming years, and personnel work. Read full story

– Deputy Minister of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong and Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ung Rachana co-chaired the ninth political consultation in Hanoi on July 17.

The two sides informed each other about the situation in each country, reviewed the results of the implementation of agreements and directions of the two countries' high-ranking leaders, and discussed measures to promote bilateral relations in the coming time as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern. – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang held talks with Dr Mansour Ali Saeed Bajash, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Yemen, in Hanoi on July 17 as part of the latter's working visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Hang welcomed Dr Bajash’s visit, noting that it marked the first official visit to Vietnam by a senior Yemeni official since the two countries established diplomatic ties 60 years ago. – Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long met with Takebe Tsutomu, Special Advisor of the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance (JVPFA), in Hanoi on July 17 to discuss the Vietnam-Japan University project and broader educational cooperation.

– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed decisions on the establishment and working regulations of the National Committee for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum 2027.

Accordingly, the PM decided to establish the National Committee for APEC 2027 to assist the PM in considering, directing, and coordinating the performance of tasks related to the preparation for and organisation of APEC conferences and related activities in 2027. Read full story

– The Vietnamese Embassy in Washington D.C. has held a ceremony to receive wartime memorabilia from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the US.

– The Vietnamese and Lao ministries of industry and trade jointly held the opening ceremony of the 2025 Vietnam-Laos Trade Fair in Vientiane on July 17.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lao Minister of Industry and Commerce Malaythong Kommasith said the event, now in its 15th edition, has become a national-level trade exhibition that contributes to strengthening comprehensive cooperation between the two governments and peoples. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued an urgent directive demanding stronger and more coordinated measures to curb the spread of African swine fever (ASF), as Vietnam faces a resurgence of the deadly livestock disease in several localities.

Since the beginning of this year, over 514 outbreaks have been reported in 28 out of 34 provinces and cities, with more than 30,000 pigs infected, killed or culled, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment reported. Read full story
