Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh on April 4 hosted a gathering with the Standing Board of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) to celebrate Cambodia’s Choul Chnam Thmey festival and mark the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification of Vietnam (April 30, 1975 – 2025).

The event saw the presence of senior Cambodian leaders, including CPP Vice President and Chairman of the Standing Board of the CPP Central Committee Samdech Say Chhum; CPP Vice President, President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia Motherland (SFDCM), and President of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Samdech Men Sam An; President of the National Assembly of Cambodia Samdech Khuon Sudary; as well as members of the CPP Central Committee.

In his welcome remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu extended his warmest greetings to the Cambodian people on the occasion of their traditional New Year. He congratulated Cambodia on its recent achievements and expressed his hope that the Cambodian people will continue to enjoy peaceful and joyful Choul Chnam Thmey celebrations under the leadership of the CPP.

Vu also highlighted that while joining the Cambodian people in welcoming the New Year, the Vietnamese people are also preparing for a major national celebration - the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification - a historic milestone that paved the way for Vietnam's development and prosperity. After five decades, Vietnam is entering a new era of dynamic growth, with aspirations for a strong, modern, and prosperous nation.

The Ambassador emphasised that this anniversary is also a time to express gratitude to international friends, including the Cambodian people, for their support during Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation.

The support and sacrifices of the Cambodian people are a testament to the deep-rooted friendship and solidarity between the two nations, he said.

Speaking at the event, CPP Vice President Say Chhum praised the embassy’s thoughtful organisation of the celebration, reaffirming that the Cambodia-Vietnam relationship based on the motto “Good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability” has continued to flourish.

He reaffirmed the CPP’s high regard for the ties with Vietnam, underscoring its appreciation for the support of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in Cambodia’s fight against the Pol Pot regime.

Say Chhum expressed his confidence that under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam will achieve the goal of becoming a developed country with high income by 2045, as well as enhance its position in the region and in the international arena.

Later the same day, CPP Vice President Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng visited the embassy to extend his best wishes to its staff and conveyed greetings to leaders and the people of Vietnam on the 50th anniversary of national reunification./.

14th National Party Congress: Vietnam’s strategic shift in new era

Vietnam now stands at the threshold of a new development era, driven by strong aspirations and substantial potential. The 14th Party Congress is, therefore, of decisive importance for the country’s future transformations, particularly amid an international environment marked by uncertainty and volatility. While this phase may be among the most complex of the renewal process, it also presents a critical opportunity for Vietnam to break through and evolve from an “Asian tiger” into a regional “dragon.”
