Hanoi (VNA) – The capital city of Hanoi on June 5 launched the 2026 Action Month on Drug Prevention and Control, alongside a public awareness campaign and an online competition on the 2025 Law on Drug Prevention and Control.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Do Anh Tuan stressed that drug prevention and control is a key, ongoing task for the entire political system, requiring coordinated implementation from the municipal level down to grassroots level.
He said the capital has achieved encouraging results in drug prevention and control, with stronger public awareness, busted drug trafficking rings, addiction treatment, rehabilitation and community reintegration. Drug-free models in communes, wards, schools and public agencies have also been expanded.
However, he warned that drug-related crime and abuse remain complex. Drug use is increasingly affecting younger people, while synthetic drugs, narcotics disguised as food, beverages and e-cigarettes, as well as new psychoactive substances, continue to pose growing challenges for law enforcement and regulators.
Tuan called on local authorities to step up public awareness, encourage the public’s broad participation in anti-drug activities and sustain the ongoing crackdown on drug-related crime across the city.
At the event, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Health Nguyen Van Phong, who is Deputy Head of the city's Steering Committee for Drug Prevention and Control, launched the 2026 communication campaign "Hanoi – United in Building Drug-free Communes and Wards."
The campaign aims to raise public awareness of the Party's guidelines and the State’s policies on drug prevention, the dangers of drug abuse, safeguarding national security, and community-based anti-drug initiatives.
Its primary target groups include young people, public officials, employees, industrial workers, businesses subject to security regulations, and social media users across the capital.
Public awareness activities will be rolled out through digital platforms, media, community campaigns, stage performances, mass events and grassroots communication networks.
The steering committee also launched an online competition on the 2025 Law on Drug Prevention and Control and its implementing regulations.
Open to Vietnamese citizens aged 15 and above living, studying or working in the country, the competition will focus on the law adopted by the 15th National Assembly on December 10, 2025, and the Government’s Decree No. 163/2026/ND-CP detailing its implementation.
The online multiple-choice contest will run on the mobiEdu MOOCs platform from June 10 to July 10, with winners expected to be announced in mid-July.
Representing Hanoi’s youth, Nguyen Thai Dieu Thao, a student at the National Economics University, expressed the determination of the capital’s young people to play a pioneering role in public awareness campaigns, raise legal awareness, actively help detect and report drug-related crimes, and promote healthy lifestyles in the community.
Following the launching ceremony, participating forces joined a parade through Hanoi to mark the 2026 Action Month on Drug Prevention and Control and promote the message of building a safe, civilised and drug-free capital./.
