Hanoi (VNA) – The security industry is a potential area of cooperation that could become a new pillar in bilateral relations between Vietnam and Türkiye, Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang said during his meeting with Haluk Görgün, President of the Turkish Defence Industry Agency, in Hanoi on October 14.
Highly appreciating Türkiye’s capabilities and technology mastery in the defence and security industries, he affirmed that the Vietnamese Government and Ministry of Public Security always support international cooperation in this field on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, and respect for Vietnamese law and international commitments.
To further enhance practical cooperation, Quang expressed his hope that Görgün will continue to facilitate connections between the ministry and Türkiye’s leading enterprises in the defence and security industries.
He suggested that the two sides work to promote the transfer of technology, supporting tools, and technical equipment for maintaining national security and social order.
The two officials agreed to increase exchanges of all-level delegations, share experience, and explore cooperation opportunities in areas of mutual strength. They also discussed promoting negotiations toward signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the security industry to create a solid legal cornerstone for future cooperation.
In the field of public security, Quang said, cooperation between the Vietnamese ministry and relevant Turkish agencies has continuously expanded and achieved positive results. The two sides have stepped up mutual visits, information sharing, joint crime prevention efforts, and participation in conferences and training programmes.
Notably, the Turkish Ministry of Interior has supported the training of the first seven Vietnamese police officers to participate in UN peacekeeping missions, six of whom are currently performing duties in South Sudan.
The countries have also strengthened coordination under an agreement on cooperation in combating international terrorism, organised crime, and illicit drug trafficking, signed in 2007. In 2023, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security sent a team to assist Türkiye in its post-earthquake recovery efforts./.
