Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

– State President Luong Cuong held talks with Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço in Luanda on August 7 morning (local time), right after an official welcome ceremony held for the Vietnamese leader.

President Lourenço praised President Cuong’s state visit as a historic milestone that lays the foundation for a new phase of deeper and stronger cooperation between the two countries. Read full story

– Vietnamese President Luong Cuong and Angolan President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço met with the press right after concluding their talks and witnessing the signing of seven cooperation agreements between the two countries in Luanda on August 7.

– Party General Secretary To Lam has praised the significance of the ongoing Vietnam visit by Chairwoman of the Japan – Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance (JVPFA) Obuchi Yuko, saying that it contributes to further deepening the Vietnam – Japan comprehensive strategic partnership.

He praised the delegation’s packed agenda, particularly its presence at an investment promotion event in Can Tho city, which he said would advance collaboration in agriculture and climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta. Read full story

– National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received a visiting delegation from the Japan – Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance led by its Chairwoman Obuchi Yuko in Hanoi on August 7.

NA Chairman Man expressed his delight at meeting Obuchi Yuko and other senior members of the alliance, following their previous meeting during his official visit to Japan in December 2024. Congratulating Obuchi on her recent election as Chairwoman of the alliance, he expressed confidence that she will continue the legacy of her father, late Prime Minister Obuchi Keizo, in advancing Japan – Vietnam ties. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on August 7 hosted a reception for Hironori Kamezawa, CEO of Japan’s Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), during which he invited the Japanese financial giant to participate in the development of an international financial centre in Vietnam.

MUFG is one of Japan’s three largest banks, operating more than 770 branches domestically and 76 overseas. In Vietnam, MUFG Bank has been present since 1998. In 2013, it became a strategic partner of the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) by acquiring a 19.73% stake in the Vietnamese financial institution. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on ministries and local authorities to work together to reach an economic growth target of 8.3 - 8.5% in 2025 and double-digit growth in the following period, while cautioning that the challenges ahead will outweigh the opportunities.

Ministries, sectors, and localities must prioritise economic growth, renewing traditional growth motives, and promoting new drivers, he said, urging stronger efforts in public investment disbursement, aiming at over 1 quadrillion VND (38.15 billion USD) into the economy. Read full story

– At the invitation of Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade Michelle Chan, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong visited Australia from August 4-7 and co-chaired the first dialogue between senior officials from the two foreign ministries.

At the dialogue, both sides expressed satisfaction with the intensive and extensive development of bilateral relationship since it was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership last year. They noted that cooperation under this upgraded framework has been advancing effectively and comprehensively across all six pillars, with over 100 joint activities completed and nearly 60 ongoing activities on track, yielding tangible results across multiple sectors. Two military officers promoted to rank of Senior Lieutenant General
