- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to push beyond their limits and strive for growth at a Government conference with the group on February 27.

Addressing the event, which aimed to identify challenges facing SMEs, propose solutions, and foster sustainable economic growth, PM Chinh stressed that authorities must actively listen to businesses, address their difficulties, and encourage their expansion. Read full story

- Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh on February 27 paid a courtesy call to President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Yang Wanming as he has begun his tenure in China.

Binh stressed that the Vietnamese Party and State highly value the consolidation and strengthening of friendship and cooperation with the Chinese Party, State and people, considering it a top priority and a strategic choice in Vietnam’s foreign policy. Read full story

The newly formed Party organisations include those of the State Audit Office, the NA Office, the NA’s Ethnic Council, the Legal and Judicial Committee, the Economic and Financial Committee, the National Defence, Security and Foreign Affairs Committee, the Committee for Social and Cultural Affairs, the Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, the Committee for Deputy Affairs, the Committee for Ombudsman and Supervision, and advisory and support agencies of the NA Party Committee. - Permanent Representative of Vietnam in Geneva Ambassador Mai Phan Dung affirmed Vietnam's consistent stance on supporting all efforts toward disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons while speaking at the high-level session of the Conference on Disarmament (CD) which was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from February 24-26.

- Myanmar authorities are currently detaining multiple foreign nationals, including Vietnamese citizens, following a crackdown on online scam operations along the Thailand-Myanmar border, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang has said.

- More than 53,000 people are expected to take part in a mass folk dance performance at the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) Festival, set to take place from March 1-9, organisers announced at a press conference on February 27.

This year's festival, themed “Ao dai Vietnam – Vuon cao Viet Nam (Vietnamese ao dai – reaching new heights)," will feature a series of diverse activities at prominent city landmarks, including President Ho Chi Minh park, Nguyen Hue walking street, Lam Son park in front of the municipal Opera House, as well as various historical and cultural sites, tourist attractions, and iconic structures. - Measures to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and preparations for the upcoming inspection by the European Commission (EC) were discussed at a conference organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in the south-central coastal province of Phu Yen on February 27.

According to Vu Duyen Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Fisheries under the MARD, localities in the central region have demonstrated strong political commitment and strictly implemented the directions of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, the Government, and the Prime Minister, in addressing IUU fishing violations./. The State President’s order on the promulgation of three laws, recently passed by the 15th National Assembly (NA) during its 9th extraordinary session, was announced on February 28 morning. They include the law amending and supplementing several articles of the Law on the Organisation of the NA, the Law on Organisation of the Government, and the Law on Organisation of Local Governments.

The joint patrol, spanning from Point 1 to Point 9 along the demarcation line of the Gulf of Tonkin, covered a distance of 120 nautical miles. This area has seen vibrant export-import activities and goods exchange between Vietnam and China, but it is also abused for smuggling, trade fraud, illegal transport of goods, and unauthorised border crossings by sea.

Permanent Representative of Vietnam in Geneva Ambassador Mai Phan Dung highlighted Vietnam’s active engagement and contributions to the CD and related disarmament agreements, noting that Vietnam has assumed the CD chairmanship three times and is a signatory to all the most important multilateral treaties on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
