Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary To Lam attended an art performance programme in Hanoi on August 18 evening, which was held to honour outstanding examples of public security officers in communes and towns, as well as those joining in protecting security and order at the grassroots level.

Nearly 300 outstanding public security officers and representatives of the forces joining in protecting security and order at the grassroots level of 9,000 communes and towns nationwide participated in the programme.

The event celebrated their innovative approaches to maintaining public order and safety, and showed gratitude to ministries, sectors, agencies, local authorities, and residents for their care, support and assistance to public security officers in communes and towns across the country.

In his speech, Party General Secretary To Lam extended his warmest congratulations to the public security force in communes and towns, urging them to continue striving for excellent performance of their duties and underscoring their indispensable role as the sharp sword and steel shield to protect the Party, the regime, and the people from threats at the grassroots.

He said the entire Party, people, army and political system are striving for achievements celebrating the 95th founding anniversary of the Party, the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, the 80th anniversary of National Day, and the 80th traditional day of the People’s Public Security Force.

With preparations underway for Party congresses at all levels in the lead-up to the 14th National Party Congress, he called on the public security sector to pioneer the Party’s policy of streamlining the political system, developing sci-tech, innovation and digital transformation, aiming to build a public security force that is not only clean and strong but also professional, elite, and modern, adapting to the revolutionary requirements of the new era.

Moreover, he urged the Central Public Security Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security to proactively push forward decentralisation and develop capabilities to tackle security issues more effectively at the grassroots level.

The Party chief assigned public security officers in communes and towns to maintain close ties with the local communities, ensuring they promptly deal with the public's needs, concerns, and legitimate aspirations.

The event concluded with a symbolic gesture as General Secretary Lam and delegates pressed the button to launch the Sunflower Campaign, an initiative designed to spread beautiful and positive images on digital platforms, fostering a peaceful and harmonious life of people./.
