Hanoi (VNA) - The state visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) from August 10 to 13 by Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse achieved important and practical results, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, investment, science, technology, innovation, and human resources training, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang told a regular press conference on August 14.

The visit visit helped deepen political trust, strengthen the good personal relations between the two countries' high-ranking leaders, and deepen the Vietnam–RoK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Amidst the challenging and unstable global political and economic context, both sides will strive to achieve the goal of reaching 150 billion USD in bilateral trade by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner.

General Secretary Lam also proposed to the RoK the shaping of a new strategic vision, shifting from economic cooperation to economic linkage, Hang said.

In addition, the Party chief’s trip opened up new opportunities in science and technology, strategic infrastructure development, high-tech agriculture, sustainable development collaboration, and climate change response. Both sides agreed to make science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, and human resources training new pillars of the bilateral relationship.

They also emphasised that social foundations and people-to-people exchanges are the adhesives that firmly bind the friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries. On that basis, they committed to promoting cooperation in culture, education, human resources training, people-to-people exchanges, support for Vietnam–Korea multicultural families, and cooperation between localities in the time ahead.

Multilaterally, both sides agreed to work closely together and enhance mutual support at international and regional forums and organisations, and stand ready to actively participate in joint efforts of the international community to address traditional and non-traditional security issues as well as global challenges, added the spokesperson./.
