HCM City (VNA) - Vietnam Coast Guard vessel CSB 8001 set sail from Ho Chi Minh City on August 21 morning, packed with a crew led by Col. Nguyen Tran Dong, Deputy Commander of Coast Guard Region 3, for a visit to the Indonesian coast guard force.
The voyage, timed with the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2), is a tangible step to bring their 2021 memorandum of understanding on cooperation to life.
This is the first trip of the Vietnam Coast Guard ship to Indonesia in 2025, showing the two forces' determination and goodwill to strengthen cooperation, promote traditional friendship, and build trust. More than that, it contributes to building a sea area of peace, security, safety, cooperation and sustainable development.
Joint efforts between Vietnam and Indonesia’s coast guards have gained momentum in recent years, with joint patrols in adjacent waters, mutual delegation visits, alternating bilateral conferences, and combined drills for search-and-rescue and maritime incident response. A notable milestone came in October 2024, when Indonesia’s KN Pulau Dana 323 docked in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, now part of Ho Chi Minh City, for exchanges with Vietnamese officers.
Maj. Gen. Ngo Binh Minh, Commander of Coast Guard Region 3, said the mission seeks to share experience in maritime law enforcement, while advancing international cooperation, protecting environment, and maintaining peace and stability at sea.
The delegation is scheduled to pay courtesy calls to Indonesian authorities and coast guard leaders, have bilateral meetings, join sports exchanges with Indonesian officers and sailors, and visit cultural landmarks in Jakarta. A joint maritime exercise is also included..
The visit is poised to enhance the two forces’ ability to handle maritime situations and unlock new avenues for practical and effective collaboration in the future./.
