Hanoi (VNA) – A special concert titled The Light of Melody was held at Ho Guom Opera on July 10, gathering a lineup of world-renowned opera singers alongside prominent Vietnamese artists.
The event marked the second anniversary of the theatre’s inauguration and looked ahead to the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security Force and the 20th All People’s Day for National Security.
Held under the direction of the Ministry of Public Security’s Department of Political Affairs, the concert brought together celebrated voices such as Marcello Alvarez, Kathryn Lewek, and Joseph Calleja, performing with Vietnamese violinist Bui Cong Duy, conductor Tran Nhat Minh, the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra, and local choirs.
Audiences were treated to operatic masterpieces by Verdi, Puccini, Bellini, and Giordano, in a performance that traced the evolution of global opera through powerful storytelling and a rich tapestry of sound. The programme offered a vivid emotional journey across Italian passion, Spanish vibrancy, and Russian grandeur.
Argentine tenor Marcello Alvarez, discovered by legendary singer Giuseppe Di Stefano, has graced major opera houses worldwide. American soprano Kathryn Lewek, acclaimed for her portrayal of Mozart’s Queen of the Night, has appeared at venues from the Metropolitan Opera (New York, the US) to the Salzburg Festival (Austria). Meanwhile, Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja, one of today’s most sought-after lyrical voices, is a cultural ambassador and philanthropist.
Representatives from the theatre described the concert as both a tribute to artists and a gesture of appreciation to audiences. As Ho Guom Opera marks two years of operation, it continues to position itself as a major cultural venue, bridging Vietnamese heritage and international artistry through a wide range of performances./.
