Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Party General Secretary To Lam attended a ceremony to mark the diplomatic sector’s 80th founding anniversary (August 28, 1945-2025) on August 25, during which he showed his belief that Vietnamese diplomacy will help establish and preserve a peaceful and stable environment, pioneer in fostering cooperation, unlock and attract development resources, and constantly enhance the country’s standing.

Hailing the sector’s outstanding achievements and contributions, General Secretary Lam stressed that the Vietnamese diplomatic service is now facing a historic mission. He called on the sector to focus on building a comprehensive, modern, and professional diplomacy imbued with Vietnamese identity; ensuring comprehensiveness across all three pillars of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy; closely integrating diplomacy with national defence, security, economy, science and technology, culture, and foreign service information; and modernising itself in terms of mindset, methods, and tools. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on August 25 urged ministries, sectors and localities to implement drastic emergency measures at the highest level to cope with Typhoon Kajiki and flooding as it is approaching Vietnam’s mainland with very strong intensity.

The eye of Kajiki, the fifth storm to hit Vietnam this year, is forecast to make direct landfall in Nghe An – Ha Tinh coastal areas, with maximum wind speeds near the centre reaching levels 12–13 (very strong), and gusting up to level 16. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged the justice sector to take the lead in implementing the Politburo's Resolution 66-NQ/TW on renovating lawmaking and enforcement, turning bottlenecks into breakthroughs, and enhancing national competitiveness.

Attending a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the justice sector’s traditional day (August 28, 1945 – 2025) in Hanoi on August 25, the PM expressed deep gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, who laid the foundation for Vietnam’s revolutionary democratic justice system, and always emphasised the importance of the Constitution and laws in state and social governance from an early stage. He noted that even at the outset of his quest for national salvation, President Ho Chi Minh demonstrated a forward-looking vision of the law’s role in protecting human rights and serving as a shield against oppression and exploitation. - The Republic of Korea (RoK) - Vietnam global exchange took place on August 24 at the Chunghyodang relic site in Bongseong township, Bonghwa county, North Gyeongsang province, where Vietnam’s royal Ly lineage left its mark centuries ago.

The event, co-hosted by Bonghwa county, the Vietnamese Embassy, the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Ly clan in the RoK, aimed to foster locality-to-locality and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations. It featured a topping-out ceremony for a new community centre, a Vietnam Culture Day, and the unveiling of King Ly Thai To statute in Vietnam village in Bonghwa. Read full story

- Authorities across Vietnam’s coastal provinces have suspended marine tourism and transport activities as Typhoon Kajiki (Storm No. 5) intensifies, in a bid to safeguard visitors and residents.

Forecasts suggest the storm could reach level 13–14, with some models warning of possible escalation to level 15. Its centre is expected to make landfall between Thanh Hoa and the northern part of Quang Tri around midday to afternoon of August 25. Read full story

- Vietnam is invited as a guest of honour at the fifth Imedghassen International Film Festival in Batna, Algeria, from September 10-16.

In its August 24 edition, the daily newspaper El Moudjahid featured a prominent article highlighting the growth of Vietnamese cinema, while expressing confidence that the Vietnamese films participating in the upcoming festival will offer Algerian audiences an opportunity to discover a cinema rich in humanity, poetic expression, and deeply rooted in the nation’s history. - General Director of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Vu Viet Trang has said that VNA’s exhibition booth will recreate its 80-year journey accompanying the nation through unique news items, photos, and artifacts, affirming its role as the official and mainstream source of information from the resistance wars to the cause of national reconstruction, and the journey into a new era of prosperity, identity and happiness.

Trang made the remarks while inspecting the VNA’s booth at the national exhibition themed “80-Year Journey of Independence – Freedom – Happiness”, to be held from August 28 to September 5, at the Vietnam Exposition Centre in Dong Anh commune of Hanoi, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2). - Bus operators in the capital and the Hanoi Metro One Member Limited Liability Company will provide free rides for residents and visitors during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2).

According to the Hanoi transport management and operation centre, the policy will be applied from August 30 to the end of September 2 on 128 subsidised bus routes across the city and two metro lines – Line 2A Cat Linh – Ha Dong and Line 3.1 Nhon – Cau Giay./. Read full story

Vietnamese naval ship completes mission at Kakadu Exercise 2026

Ship 016–Quang Trung of Brigade 162 under Naval Region 4 departed Sydney Harbour on the morning of March 25 for home after successfully completing activities within the framework of the Exercise Kakadu Fleet Review 2026 marking the 125th anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy and the multilateral naval exercise Kakadu 2026.

95th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union marked in Laos
