Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang hosted a tea gathering on August 28 for ambassadors and chargés d’affaires from the UK, Switzerland, Norway, and EU member states in Hanoi on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's August Revolution, National Day and the diplomatic service, and 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties of Vietnam and the EU.

Deputy FM Hang invited foreign diplomats to savour Vietnamese tea and treats, including bean cakes, mooncakes, and peanut sweets, showcasing the country’s vibrant tea culture and warm hospitality. Read full story

- Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong and Deputy Secretary-General of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Ahmad Rozian Abd Ghani co-chaired the third Vietnam–Malaysia Senior Officials’ Strategic Dialogue in Hanoi on August 28.

Deputy Minister Cuong welcomed the timely organisation of the meeting following the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the historic visit to Malaysia by Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse in November 2024. He stressed that the dialogue reflected the proactive efforts of both foreign ministries in implementing the new partnership and the agreements reached by the two countries’ high-ranking leaders. The event was all the more meaningful as it coincided with major national celebrations: Malaysia’s 68th National Day and Vietnam’s 80th August Revolution and National Day. Read full story

- Vietnam is showcasing some of its most modern tanks at the national exhibition ‘80-Year Journey of Independence – Freedom – Happiness’, which opened on August 28 at the Vietnam Exposition Centre in Dong Anh commune, Hanoi.

The event is one of the highlights marking the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2). Read full story

- The Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC) and Vietnam International Arbitration Centre organised a conference on “Real Estate Transactions in a Volatile Market and Legal Context” as part of the 2025 HCM City Legal Management Series on August 28.

It attracted more than 200 participants, including leading legal experts, real estate developers, investors, and lawyers, and was hailed as a platform to discuss challenges and opportunities for the property sector. Read full story

- Vietnam's semiconductor industry stands at the threshold of a billion-dollar opportunity, yet faces a critical shortage of high-skilled talent that threatens to derail its ambitious plans to integrate deeply into global value chains.

Under the semiconductor industry development strategy by 2030 with a vision to 2050, Vietnam sets a target to train at least 50,000 high-quality professionals. Ho Chi Minh City along shoulders some 9,000 in the domains of integrated circuit design, chip manufacturing, and related technologies. Read full story

- The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway 1 Co., Ltd. has announced that all passengers on the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line will be able to travel for free on National Day (September 2).

Passengers can access free rides in one by scanning with a citizen ID card or a chip-embedded citizen ID card at the ticket gate, or by using a QR code generated via the HCMC Metro HURC app. If passengers purchase tickets in the usual way, the system will charge the fare and payments will not be refunded./. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang stressed that Vietnam attaches great importance to its relationship with France, the first European Union country with which Vietnam has established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, noting that the two sides enjoy a solid foundation and significant potential for further cooperation.

Senior Party official reviews preparations for 14th National Party Congress

Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu expressed his belief that relevant agencies will continue to make efforts to basically complete organisation- and service-related preparations by December 31, ensuring readiness for the final rehearsals ahead of the opening of the 14th National Party Congress.

PM urges industry, trade sector to pioneer in six key areas

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed that to make a substantive contribution to national development, the industry and trade sector must also achieve double-digit growth, generate new jobs, strengthen traditional growth drivers such as export and consumption, and accelerate emerging engines of growth, including the green, digital, circular, knowledge-based and sharing economies.

Two military officers promoted to rank of Senior Lieutenant General

Lieutenant General Do Xuan Tung, Vice Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), and Lieutenant General Do Van Banh, Political Commissar of the National Defence Academy were promoted to the rank of Senior Lieutenant General at a ceremony in Hanoi on December 19.

Vietnam–Laos step up cooperation in procuracy sector

Top legislator receives Lao foreign minister in Hanoi
