Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- No obstacles can hinder collaboration between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed at a meeting on March 4 with leaders of 35 Korean enterprises that are doing business and invest in the Southeast Asian country.

- A press conference took place in Hanoi on March 4 to announce the State President’s amnesty decision on the occasion of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30).

The event was co-hosted by the Presidential Office, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme People’s Court, and relevant agencies. Read full story

- Foreign media outlets have cast a positive light on Vietnam’s economic growth, hailing its resilience amid global challenges and strategic vision for future growth.

Australia’s East Asia Forum commended Vietnam as an economic development model, crediting the new leadership for pushing hi-tech innovation, mega infrastructure and institutional reforms. By wooing global tech giants, combating corruption and pursuing tactful diplomacy, Vietnam is well on its way to achieving its goal of becoming a developed, high-income nation by 2045. - Vietnam's impressive economic growth in 2024 was fueled by contributions from various sectors, with foreign direct investment (FDI) playing a pivotal role. As the country aims to achieve a growth rate of at least 8% in 2025 and double-digit growth in subsequent years, the contributions from the FDI sector need to be amplified.

According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), Vietnam secured 38.23 billion USD in FDI last year, positioning itself among the top 15 developing countries for FDI inflows. Notably, the disbursement of FDI capital hit a record high of 25.35 billion USD, up 9.4% from the previous year. The influx has contributed significantly to Vietnam's position as a regional leader in economic growth. Read full story

- Vingroup and global investment firm JTA Investment Qatar announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 4, opening up strategic investment opportunities in the electric vehicle and tourism sectors.

Accordingly, JTA Investment Qatar recognises VinFast's global growth strategy, alongside the significant value of Vinpearl's premium hotels and resorts, leading amusement parks and entertainment clusters, thereby aiming to join Vingroup in capitalising on these investment opportunities. - The world's largest airline, Emirates, will operate flights connecting Middle Eastern countries and major cities in Europe to Da Nang, starting June 2, with a frequency of four flights per week.

This move will make Da Nang the third destination in Vietnam chosen by Emirates to operate flights to, after Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, said Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Truong Thi Hong Hanh. Read full story

- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has rolled out the tourism stimulus programme 2025 with the theme "Vietnam – Travel to Love", igniting fresh energy for Vietnam’s green economic sector.

This move aims to spotlight Vietnam globally while luring travellers with irresistible perks, especially those from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. It is also meant to realise the Government’s Resolution on granting visa exemptions to citizens of these countries from March 1 to December 31, 2025, and another resolution to accelerate tourism growth. No obstacles can impede development of Vietnam-RoK relations: PM

Sharing the positive results of Vietnam's socio-economic development in 2024, PM Pham Minh Chinh mentioned that its investment and business environment has continued to improve, receiving positive assessments from the international community and investors. The country's economy is currently ranked 33rd or 34th in the world, and many major international organisations have upgraded its competitiveness rankings and rated its creditworthiness as stable.

Vietnam nominated as Chair of 35th meeting of State Parties to UNCLOS

The nomination reflects the high trust and recognition from the international community for Vietnam’s leading efforts in implementing and strengthening the universal values of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), as well as its positive contributions to the work of the UN since it joined the convention in 1994.
