Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Party General Secretary To Lam has called for intellectual efforts, engagement of scientists and experts, as well as global expertise to chart strategies for the development of urban and rural areas, ensuring that they meet the country’s growth requirements in the new era.

He made the call while presiding over a working session on September 17 with the Standing Board of the Government Party Committee regarding the implementation of the Party Central Committee’s Resolution No.19-NQ/TW on agriculture, farmers and rural areas and the Politburo’s Resolution No.06-NQ-TW on urban planning, construction, management, and sustainable development. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed ministries, central agencies, and localities to ensure 100% disbursement of public investment capital in 2025, urging serious implementation of Government resolutions, directives, and instructions.

The urgent requirement is to accelerate public investment with greater determination and efficiency, enhance its quality, and prevent corruption, misconduct, and wastefulness. Public investment should serve as a key driver of growth, acting as seed capital to catalyse and mobilise all social resources, thereby fostering economic expansion, creating jobs and livelihoods, and improving the material and spiritual well-being of the people, he stated. – National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man held bilateral meetings with Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary and Timor-Leste National Parliament Speaker Maria Fernanda Lay in Kuala Lumpur on September 17.

– General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Minister of National Defence, has urged closer coordination between the VPA and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) to effectively implement agreed cooperation areas.

The call was made during talks in Hanoi on September 17 with a visiting RBAF delegation led by its Commander Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi Bin Bol Hassan. The delegation is on an official visit to Vietnam from September 16–18 at the invitation of Gen. Cuong. Read full story

– To sustain export momentum and reach the annual target soon, businesses and competent authorities are urged to capitalise on the advantages of free trade agreements, expand markets, accelerate green and digital transformation in production, and enhance resilience against global volatility.

In the first eight months of 2025, Vietnam’s total trade value reached nearly 600 billion USD, up 16.3% year on year, with a trade surplus of almost 14 billion USD. Experts have described these results as impressive given the global economy’s lingering uncertainties, with trade conflicts and geopolitical tensions continuing to weigh heavily on international supply chains. – Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc called for effective coordination between monetary and fiscal measures to ensure macro-economic stability for sustainable development while chairing a meeting on September 16 with the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and relevant ministries and sectors to review monetary policy and gold market management over the past nine months and chart directions for the period ahead.
