Can Tho (VNA) - Officials of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho had a meeting with a delegation led by Israeli Ambassador to Vietnam Yaron Mayer on March 25, during which the two sides discussed measures to further intensify bilateral cooperation, especially in agriculture.

According to Duong Tan Hien, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee, stated that Can Tho - which is strategically located at the centre of the Mekong Delta, serves as a dynamic hub for the region's development. With favourable conditions for multimodal trade, the city plays a crucial role in regional, national, and international connectivity.

In 2024, Can Tho's economic growth rose by 7.12%, with per capita GRDP reaching 105 million VND (nearly 4,100 USD). The city's export turnover of goods and services exceeded 2.2 billion USD. It now hosts 79 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total registered capital of 2.23 billion USD.

In addition to services and tourism, Can Tho seeks partners in high-quality agriculture, Hien said, noting that the city values cooperation with Israel - a country known for its strengths in this field. He affirmed that Can Tho pledged to support and create the best possible conditions for foreign businesses and investors, including those from Israel, to operate and invest in Vietnam.

For his part, Ambassador Yaron Mayer praised the achievements of the Vietnam-Israel relations across fields in recent times, stating that Israel is one of the leading countries in water resource management, high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, and climate adaptation solutions, particularly in application of advanced technology in agriculture development.

Israel has established a strong foundation for long-term cooperation with Can Tho through partnerships with Can Tho University. Israel has welcomed many agricultural students from Can Tho University for study and work programmes, while experts from both sides have actively shared experiences, exchanged information, and explored collaboration opportunities.

During their working visit to Can Tho from March 25-28, Israeli guests will meet with representatives of Can Tho University and visit businesses at the Korea-Vietnam Incubator Park (KVIP) which is applying Israeli technology in cordyceps cultivation and fruit freeze-drying. They will also attend the Vietshrimp Aquaculture International Fair 2025, where several Israeli high-tech agricultural enterprises will be present./.
